What is a gig?

Gigs are short-term, flexible jobs or tasks that individuals take on, often through online platforms or apps. Examples include freelance writing, food delivery, ride-sharing, graphic design, or handyman services. Gigs are typically project-based or hourly, allowing workers to set their own schedules and choose the work they want to do. The gig economy has grown rapidly in recent years, offering both opportunities and challenges for those seeking flexible or supplemental income.

What are some common challenges faced by gig workers and how can they be managed?

Gig workers often face challenges such as inconsistent income, lack of employer-provided benefits, and managing multiple clients or platforms simultaneously. To navigate these, successful gig workers typically develop strong organizational and time management skills, set aside savings for periods of low demand, and proactively seek out new gigs to maintain a steady workflow. Additionally, joining professional networks or online communities can provide support, resources, and opportunities for collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a gig worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Gig Worker, you need strong self-management, time management, and specialized skills relevant to your chosen gig (such as driving, delivery, or freelance work), with no formal qualifications usually required. Familiarity with gig platforms and apps like Uber, DoorDash, or Upwork, and basic digital literacy, are essential for finding and managing work. Reliability, adaptability, and excellent communication help gig workers stand out to clients and secure repeat business. These skills are important because they enable gig workers to efficiently secure opportunities, deliver quality service, and build a solid reputation in a competitive market.

Job description

Ultimate Flexibility. Real Incentives. Endless Variety.
Want the freedom to work when it works for you-without giving up great pay or meaningful nursing experience?
The Gig Nurse role is part of the Deaconess Resource Team and is built for RNs who want flexibility, variety, and incentive-based pay without the commitment of a traditional schedule. As a Gig Nurse, you'll have the opportunity to pick up day shift or night shift based on what fits your life, while floating across Deaconess Midtown, Gateway, and Henderson to support patient care where it's needed most.
This role gives you the best of both worlds: the excitement of working in different units and campuses, plus the freedom to choose shifts without a weekend, holiday, or minimum shift requirement. Every shift brings the chance to work with new teams, care for different patient populations, and expand your experience across the health system-all while maintaining the flexibility you've been looking for.
If you enjoy change, thrive in different environments, and want a role that works around your life instead of the other way around, Gig Nursing offers a unique opportunity to do just that.
If you're looking for flexibility, incentive pay, and the chance to experience multiple units across Midtown, Gateway, and Henderson, the Gig Nurse role is the perfect fit.
Requirements
  • Active Indiana RN license or valid compact RN license

Preferred Experience:
  • One (1) year of acute care nursing experience
