Ohio Support Services (OSS) is a regionally recognized contract security service firm that provides the highest levels of customized security programs to corporate headquarters, industrial and distribution centers, multi-tenant properties, medical centers, Special Improvement Districts, and educational institutions. Since its founding in 1978 OSS has set the standard for the industry, designing and implementing superior, comprehensive, and cost-effective security programs.

What You Will Be Doing

The Lead Security Officer / Armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment by protecting people, property, and assets across assigned client locations. This position combines frontline security responsibilities with leadership duties and armed response capabilities when required. The ideal candidate is a dependable security professional who demonstrates strong leadership skills, situational awareness, sound judgment, and a commitment to customer service and safety.

As the weekend Lead Officer, this individual serves as a resource for other officers, assists with shift oversight, and helps ensure site operations run smoothly. During the workweek, the employee performs standard security officer functions and may be assigned armed security responsibilities to support operational requirements.

LEAD SECURITY OFFICER / ARMED SECURITY OFFICER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a highly visible security presence to deter criminal activity, safety hazards, and policy violations.
  • Patrol assigned areas on foot or in a vehicle to ensure the security of personnel, property, and assets.
  • Monitor access control points and regulate entry and exit of visitors, employees, and vendors.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies, alarms, incidents, and calls for service.
  • Observe and report suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, and security concerns.
  • Prepare accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by assisting visitors, employees, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for on-duty security personnel during designated Lead Officer shifts (Weekend Responsibilities).
  • Assist with officer accountability, shift coordination, post coverage, and communication between site personnel and management (Weekend Responsibilities).
  • Provide coaching, guidance, and support to security officers while promoting OSS standards and expectations (Weekend Responsibilities).
  • Monitor operational effectiveness and report staffing, safety, or performance concerns to management (Weekend Responsibilities).
  • When assigned as an Armed Security Officer, provide armed protection services in accordance with company policy, state regulations, and client requirements (Weekday/As Needed Responsibilities).
  • Coordinate with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and site management during incidents when appropriate.
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills to manage potentially volatile situations safely and professionally.
  • Maintain readiness and accountability of all assigned equipment, including firearms and protective gear when armed assignments are required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of client and company operations.

LEAD SECURITY OFFICER / ARMED SECURITY OFFICER QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous security experience required.
  • Prior supervisory, lead officer, military, law enforcement, or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Ability to lead and direct personnel while maintaining professional working relationships.
  • Have or obtain the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) Certificate if required for armed assignments.
  • Be registered with the Ohio Department of Homeland Security, Private Investigator and Security Guard Services (PISGS) division for armed assignments, as applicable.
  • Maintain all required certifications and qualifications necessary to perform armed security duties when assigned.
  • Maintain training in de-escalation and conflict resolution methods.
  • Neat and well-groomed appearance.
  • Provide a high level of courtesy and customer service.
  • Commitment to safety at all times.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including courtesy, patience, and professionalism.
  • Good computer skills and the ability to use security software, email systems, and reporting platforms.
  • Effectively speak and write the English language.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work overtime as operational needs require.
  • Embody vigilance, diligence, integrity, and leadership.
