Performs the installation, removal, testing, calibration, repair and maintenance on Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) field devices. Reads and records register meter readings, both automated and manual. Connects and disconnects water meters, obtain visual reads on water meters, both automated and manual, for the utility billing process. Inspect meters and connections for defects, damage and unauthorized connection and or use. Replacement of AMR/AMI devices and water meter boxes/ lids.Applicants must submit a cover letter & resume.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Closes metering work order and service orders.
Installs, tests and maintains all Instrument Rated Revenue Metering.
Performs the installation, calibration, troubleshooting and replacement of Water End Point's.
Investigates metering and remote terminal unit (rtu) irregularities, performs minor adjustments, repairs, calibrations or servicing tasks.
Performs preventative maintenance activities on the AMI field network devices.
Performs disconnect non-payment (DNP) service orders and customer-initiated utility service connects and disconnects. Installs, removes and replaces meter boxes and lids.
Assists internal business customers and external utility customers on utility metering issues.
Operates power metering test equipment to locate the cause of defective performance. Coordinates the repair process with contractors, manufacturers or with in-house technicians.
Works under guidance and direction of the Senior Metering Technician when completing complex tasks.
Maintains the physical status of water meters by performing the on-site connection and disconnection of utility services.
Inspects meters for leaks, hazards, theft of service or any irregularities.
Provides accurate meter readings, both automated and manual.
Physically verifies questionable readings or irregularities in consumption.
Performs regular meter audits to monitor and verify the accuracy of meter and meter reading equipment in the field, physically testing each meter utilizing computerized handheld units and reprogramming equipment to synchronize the device reading with the visual meter reading.
Shares data and information gathered in the field with the Supervisor and/or Planner Scheduler.
Performs maintenance and upkeep of city-provided equipment, such as the regular servicing of the assigned vehicle and its appearance, monitoring its operational condition and keeping it clean and washed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High School diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of full-time related industrial experience performing work consistent with this classification. OR Any combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of:
Medium distribution and services voltages (12.5; 24.9;480, 120/208VAC) electrical systems, water systems, logic circuits, meter programming, computer systems and safety.
Utility metering and AMI systems and AMR systems as a process control.
Intelligent device Communications protocols (Modbus, DNP, ICCP); Boolean logic, NESC or NEC standards.
Methods, procedures, tools and equipment in testing electrical and electronic metering devices.
Installation and maintenance of electric metering systems.
Computer operating systems and basic PC skills.
Laws, theories, rules and standards pertaining to electrical metering.
All relevant safety rules and regulations.
Communications and software applications.
Industry meter specifications and standards.
NESC and NEC electrical safety standards and procedures. Awareness and recognition of installations conforming to industry safety standards.
Water system safety procedures and practices. Awareness and recognition of installations conforming to industry safety standards.
Electrical safety warnings, operations and warranties on NEMA, ANSI, NFPA, and NIST certified equipment.
Skill in:
Operating utility-grade equipment safely.
Interpreting technical manuals/metering specifications, power quality periodicals, electrical schematics, blueprints, and illustrated construction prints.
Performing electrical calculations pertaining to kWh demand and metered energy consumption, process control statistics, Power Metering analysis, and water usage.
Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
Use of tools & various types of test equipment required to test and calibrate electric & electronic meters.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class "C" Texas driver's license required. Out-of-state license holders must have a valid license and provide a three (3) year driving history.
