Job description

Mitchell Construction is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team. Working closely with our Design, Sales, Production, and Accounting teams, the Construction Estimator helps transform clients' visions into well-planned, successful remodeling projects. THIS JOB IS ON-SITE ONLY, NOT A REMOTE POSITION

The Construction Estimator is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring accurate project budgets throughout the pre-construction and active construction phases. This role creates, validates, and updates detailed cost estimates to ensure all budget line items accurately reflect the current project scope, pricing, and approved changes. The Estimator plays a critical role in maintaining budget accuracy, supporting informed decision-making, and helping ensure the financial success of every project.

In addition to estimating responsibilities, the Construction Estimator partners closely with the Accounting team to support cost tracking, budget reconciliation, financial reporting, and other project accounting functions. This position requires a highly organized, analytical, and collaborative professional who can manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining exceptional attention to detail and delivering accurate, timely results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with cross functional teams weekly to review and prioritize estimating needs.
  • Build detailed project budgets in Excel based on input from Project Managers and Design team.
  • Update budgets as scope, pricing, or project conditions change.
  • Ensure each budget line item reflects accurate, current, and approved data.
  • Verify pricing against quotes, historical data, and team inputs.
  • Flag inconsistencies, missing data, or potential cost risks to Project Managers.
  • Complete material takeoffs as needed.
  • Aid Accounting with cost tracking, reporting, and financial documentation.
  • Support Accounting and Project Managers in weekly project-level financial reviews tracking estimate vs actuals once a project enters construction.
  • Contribute data accuracy across financial systems.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to follow established processes and maintain consistency in a fast-paced environment
  • Degree or relevant experience in construction, finance, accounting or a related field
  • Ability to review, interpret, and understand construction plans and specifications.
  • Experience collaborating effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Experience in construction accounting, cost accounting or project accounting preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments
  • Effective negotiation skills, particularly when obtaining and evaluating vendor quotes
Tech Skills
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Experience with Buildertrend a plus
Education
  • Bachelors Degree in Construction Management, Accounting, Finance or related field.
