What is a freelance construction finance professional?

Freelance construction finance professionals are independent experts who provide financial management, budgeting, and advisory services for construction projects. They typically help with tasks such as cost estimation, cash flow management, project financing, and financial reporting. Unlike full-time employees, freelancers work on a contract basis for multiple clients, offering flexibility and specialized expertise as needed. Their role is crucial in ensuring that construction projects stay within budget and meet financial goals.

How do freelance construction finance professionals typically collaborate with project managers and contractors on active construction projects?

Freelance construction finance professionals often serve as a bridge between project managers, contractors, and stakeholders by managing budgets, tracking expenses, and ensuring timely payments. They regularly review project financials, prepare cost reports, and help forecast potential overruns or savings. Communication is key, as they must coordinate closely with both on-site teams and office staff to gather accurate data and support financial decision-making. This collaborative approach helps projects stay on budget and supports transparent financial operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance construction finance professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Construction Finance professional, you need a solid understanding of financial analysis, construction cost estimation, and accounting principles, often supported by a degree in finance, accounting, or construction management. Proficiency with financial modeling tools, construction management software (like Procore or Sage), and spreadsheet applications is commonly required. Strong communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills help you navigate client relationships and project complexities. These skills ensure accurate budgeting, effective project oversight, and client trust in a dynamic construction environment.

Job description

Company Description

VERSANT (Nasdaq: VSNT) is an industry-changing media and entertainment business and home to trusted brands that shape culture, inform audiences, and build lasting connections. It operates across four core markets: political news and opinion, business news and personal finance, golf, and sports and genre entertainment. These markets are served through a powerful portfolio of iconic and innovative brands, including CNBC, MS NOW, USA Network, Golf Channel, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and Versant’s sports division USA Sports, along with complementary digital assets including Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow and GolfPass.

Job Description

Versant is seeking a PEP Transmission Coordinator to support Transmission and Acquisition operations in a fast-paced live environment. This freelance role helps manage signal flow, routing, quality control, monitoring, and communication across assignment desk teams, bureaus, remote sites, control rooms, Versant partners, and affiliates.

Why This Role Matters: The Transmission Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring live and recorded content is delivered clearly, reliably, and on time across news, entertainment, and sports coverage. This role helps keep teams connected during daily coverage, planned events, evolving stories, and breaking news.

This is an onsite role based in New Jersey and is required to be performed full-time from a Versant-designated worksite. Candidates must be flexible with assigned shifts to support relief coverage, breaking news, and a 24/7/365 operation. This role is overtime-eligible.

What You'll Do

  • Route, monitor, and quality-control incoming and outgoing feeds and streams across news, entertainment, and sports coverage.
  • Communicate with live control rooms, assignment desk teams, bureaus, field crews, remote studios, partners, and affiliates to support daily transmission needs.
  • Support remote contribution using technologies such as LiveU bonded cellular, terrestrial vendors, satellite, and IP solutions to optimize signal quality.
  • Book and schedule remote facilities and transmission resources as needed to support coverage plans and production needs.
  • Troubleshoot signal, audio, video, data, and continuity issues with strong attention to detail and urgency.
  • Partner with Versant O&T Engineering and Incident Management teams to resolve equipment malfunctions, technical issues, and outages.
Qualifications

What You Bring

  • 1–3 years of proven experience in live-to-air television operations.
  • Experience in a TOC/NOC or comparable operations environment with responsibility for audio, video, data quality, and continuity.
  • Hands-on familiarity with transmission facility hardware, including LiveU, satellite receivers, antennas, IP/ASI encoders and decoders, and video plant router control panels.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines in a quick-turn, evolving live production environment.
  • Strong critical thinking, diagnostic ability, attention to detail, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility to work assigned shifts, overtime, relief coverage, breaking news, and a 24/7/365 operation as needed.

You’ll also bring Versant’s How We Do It behaviors to the work:

  • Trust: You monitor signals carefully, escalate issues appropriately, and help ensure reliable delivery of critical content.
  • Teamwork: You collaborate across control rooms, assignment desks, field teams, engineering, partners, and affiliates to keep coverage moving.
  • Transparency: You communicate clearly and quickly when technical issues, outages, or signal concerns arise.
  • Agility: You adapt to changing coverage needs, breaking news, shift changes, and evolving transmission requirements.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: You are self-managing, eager to learn new technologies, and proactive in improving operational support.

Bonus points for superior interpersonal and communication skills, experience supporting complex remote productions, and a demonstrated willingness to learn new technologies.

Why You’ll Love It Here

You’ll be part of a fast-moving media environment where live production, transmission operations, and real-time problem-solving come together every day. This freelance PEP role offers the opportunity to support high-impact coverage across news, entertainment, and sports while working closely with experienced operations, editorial, engineering, and production teams.

This role is based onsite in New Jersey and requires flexibility to support business needs, including assigned shifts, overtime, relief coverage, breaking news, and a 24/7/365 operation.
