What is a Christian curriculum?

A Christian Curriculum job involves developing, evaluating, and implementing educational materials that align with biblical principles. This role may include writing lesson plans, selecting faith-based resources, and ensuring that content is both academically sound and spiritually enriching. Professionals in this field often work for Christian schools, homeschool organizations, or publishing companies. Their goal is to integrate Christian teachings with academic subjects to foster both intellectual and spiritual growth.

What types of organizations typically employ Christian curriculum developers, and with whom do they collaborate?

Christian Curriculum Developers are commonly employed by private Christian schools, faith-based publishers, churches, missions organizations, and Christian homeschooling networks. In this role, you'll often collaborate with teachers, ministry leaders, subject matter experts, and sometimes illustrators or editors to ensure content is both educationally sound and theologically appropriate. The work environment can vary from collaborative office settings to remote or freelance positions, depending on the employer. This collaborative approach helps ensure the curriculum meets the needs of diverse learners while staying true to core Christian values and educational best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Christian curriculum position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Christian Curriculum Developer, you need a background in education, a strong understanding of Christian theology, and experience in instructional design, often supported by a degree in education or theology. Familiarity with curriculum development tools, such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), and knowledge of accreditation or denominational guidelines are important. Strong communication, creativity, and collaboration skills help in translating biblical principles into engaging, age-appropriate lessons. These skills ensure the creation of effective, meaningful educational materials that align with both academic standards and faith-based goals.

Job description

Elementary Substitute Teacher - Cherokee Christian Schools

Cherokee Christian School is a Pre-K through 12 classical Christian school located in beautiful Woodstock, Georgia, a wooded northern suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our modern and tree-shaded 15-acre campus is centrally located and enjoys easy access to major freeways into Atlanta and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. We are committed to providing our students with a learning environment that enables them to grow in knowledge, wisdom, and virtue so that they are prepared for a life of fruitful service and faithfulness to the Lord. Our classical Christian curriculum is based upon a time-tested educational system which establishes a biblical worldview, incorporates methods based on natural phases of intellectual and spiritual development, cultivates the seven Christian virtues, trains students in reasoning through the Trivium (Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric), and engages student in “the great conversation” through the historical Great Books.

Cherokee Christian School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for our Primary School, tentatively needed October through December.

This position will provide consistent classroom instruction and leadership during an extended teacher absence. Unlike a traditional substitute role, the long-term substitute will take responsibility for the day-to-day instruction and preparation necessary to maintain continuity for our students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching and supporting 1st and 2nd grade students
  • Providing instruction in reading and math
  • Preparing for daily lessons and classroom activities
  • Following established curriculum, lesson plans, and academic expectations
  • Grading and providing feedback on student work as needed
  • Managing the classroom and maintaining established routines
  • Communicating and working closely with Primary School administration and staff

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous elementary classroom teaching experience
  • Experience teaching reading and math at the 1st or 2nd grade level
  • Teaching degree or certification preferred, but not required
  • Strong classroom management, organization, and communication skills
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and Christian environment of Cherokee Christian School

Tentative Dates: October–December 2026
