Job Description:
The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for Zoo/Funland Guest Services Specialist. This position performs cashiering and related guest service duties at the Idaho Falls Zoo and Funland including providing high quality customer service, cashiering, admissions and retail support, and food preparation and sales at both locations with the goal of enhancing the guest experience at the Idaho Falls Zoo and Funland.
This position is temporary in nature and typically works approximately 20 to 40 hours per week including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
Essential Functions:
Duties include:

  • Interacting with and assisting guests in a helpful and highly positive manner
  • Operating a digital point of sale and inventory control software to perform admissions and retail sales
  • Handling money, making change, and balancing a till
  • Processing Zoological Society memberships
  • Accurately filling out financial records
  • Stocking merchandise in and maintaining the zoo gift shop - preparing, handling and cooking food items.
  • Taking reservations and processing payments for zoo programs
  • Performing as the zoo's mascot, a costumed character
  • Assisting with, organizing, and on occasion leading zoo special events
  • Assisting with setup, organization, and on occasion leading zoo special events
Other duties as assigned
1. Minimum Qualifications:
A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform above duties.
AND
B. Experience in retail sales, and/or food preparation, customer service, and cash handling desirable.
OR
C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of retail food service sales and food preparation customer service
  • Ability to generate daily retail and/or admissions financial records
  • Knowledge of the Spanish language (speaking) is also highly desirable

3. Special Qualifications:
MUST be available to be scheduled any/all 7 days per week. Schedule frequently includes weekends, holidays and occasional evenings. Must exhibit excellent customer service skills and be able to work both as a team and independently. Must follow all zoo safety protocols and procedures. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
Final candidates will be subject to a background check prior to employment. Candidates under 18 years of age will require a parent or guardian signature on the background check form.

Work Environment:
Tasks require a variety of minimal physical activities. Physical demands include walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc. Talking, hearing, reading and seeing required in the daily performance of job duties. Exposure to weather, environmental hazards and dangers resulting from working around dangerous animals and equipment are moderate. Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving.
