General Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Planning, Community, and Economic Development, performs, administrative, research and technical tasks related to planning and zoning issues. Reviews development plans to ensure compliance with the Town's zoning ordinance, the comprehensive plan and land development standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are the those that represent the majority of the time spent working in the job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as deemed necessary.

Essential Job Functions

  • An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
  • Assists with reviewing site plans, zoning amendments, conditional use permits, and subdivision plats to ensure compliance with Town requirements.
  • Conducts research and drafts reports, ordinances, grant applications and correspondence pertaining to planning and zoning issues. Gathers and assembles necessary data in support of Town development objectives.
  • Inspects construction projects for compliance with the Zoning Code, Master Zoning Plans, and approved Site Plans. Reviews and updates Town Zoning maps with the GIS administrator.
  • Reviews and approves building permits and Certificates of Occupancy for compliance with the Zoning Code and provides zoning approval.
  • Assists in preparing and implementing the comprehensive plan, zoning changes, citizens' petitions, and related land use proposals.
  • Explains, interprets and provides guidance regarding all applicable zoning issues to architects, engineers, contractors, developers, property owners, the public and Town officials. Provides assistance, responds to requests, and resolves complaints.
  • Prepares meeting agendas, maps, charts, graphs, and various technical and compliance reports, and attends meetings as requested and assigned.
