What is a Zebrafish job?
A Zebrafish job typically involves working with zebrafish in scientific research, often in genetics, developmental biology, or drug testing. Researchers use zebrafish as model organisms because of their genetic similarity to humans and their transparent embryos, which allow for easy observation of developmental processes. Responsibilities may include breeding, maintaining fish colonies, conducting experiments, and analyzing data. This role is commonly found in academic, pharmaceutical, and biomedical research settings.
What is the difference between Zebrafish vs Laboratory Technician?
| Aspect | Zebrafish | Laboratory Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Biological sciences background, sometimes specialized in aquatic models | Varies; often requires a degree in biology, chemistry, or related fields |
| Work Environment | Research labs focusing on aquatic models, vivariums | General labs across various scientific disciplines |
| Industry Usage | Primarily in biomedical research, genetics, developmental biology | Across multiple sectors including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, research |
While Zebrafish are specific aquatic models used in research, Laboratory Technicians support various lab functions across industries. Zebrafish roles focus on maintaining and breeding aquatic models, whereas Laboratory Technicians handle broader laboratory tasks. Both require scientific backgrounds but differ in specialization and work environment.
What are zebrafish researchers and what do they do?
What are some common challenges faced by Zebrafish researchers in maintaining healthy laboratory colonies?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Zebrafish researcher, and why are they important?

Our group is dedicated to systematically validating candidate disease genes uncovered through genome-wide association and exome sequencing studies by generating and analyzing zebrafish disease models.
As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with zebrafish and apply cutting-edge genomic technologies, including CRISPR genome editing, high-throughput mutagenesis, and large-scale phenotyping, to uncover mechanisms of human disease. Our research spans genetics, genomics, molecular biology, and developmental biology, offering a dynamic and collaborative training environment.
Minimum Requirements
•Bachelor's degree in one of the biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or related area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be detail-oriented and work independently as well as a team player. Ability to work well with diverse personalities is essential.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and protocols/procedures.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to compute basic mathematical operations, i.e., rate, ratio, percent, molarity, and unit conversion.
• Ability to organize and perform precise and accurate work when dealing with samples and chemicals.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience with zebrafish.
Work Hours
Typically, Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM.
