Job description

NFI Massachusetts Inc., a non-profit human services agency, is seeking compassionate and dedicated Residential Youth Counselors to join our team across multiple residential youth programs located in Haverhill, Wilmington, Beverly, Peabody and Amesbury, MA. We are hiring for full-time, part-time, and per diem positions.

Our residential programs support youth who are in need of temporary out-of-home placement and serve a range of populations including adolescents and transitional age youth (ages 12–22) with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges, often with histories of complex trauma. Youth are referred through the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

About the Role:

Residential Youth Counselors play a vital role in supporting youth development by creating a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment. Staff mentor and guide youth in developing life skills, building social and interpersonal competencies, and engaging in their communities. The ultimate goal is to prepare youth for successful transitions back into the community and towards greater independence.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide direct supervision and support to youth in a residential setting
    • Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured environment
    • Serve as a positive role model, encouraging healthy decision-making
    • Support youth with life skills, social-emotional development, and daily routines
    • Facilitate recreational, vocational, and therapeutic activities
    • Engage in crisis intervention and de-escalation when necessary
    • Collaborate with team members to ensure quality care and programming

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or GED required.
    • Experience with adolescent population preferred.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Valid U.S. driver's license and reliable transportation required

    Hourly Rate: $22.50/hour with overtime opportunities available
