Job description

Our Caldwell YMCA is seekingHead Lifeguards to join the team. This role provides leadership and influence within the program area they are working, while creating a safe, friendly and nurturing atmosphere.

Schedule:

Both Full and Part-Time positions available. Primary shifts to fill are:

  • 9:00am to Noon
  • Noon-4:00pm
  • 4:00pm - 9:00pm

We are open Sunday through Saturday. Benefits are available at 30+ hours weekly.

Starting Pay: $14.95-$18.69/hr. An additional $2.19/hr. for shifts between 5am and 9am.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe environment for members and participants through active deck scanning, being on time and ready to respond quickly and appropriately while role modeling safe behavior.
  • Designated First Responder.
  • Engage members and participants in effective, age-appropriate communication.
  • The head guard will actively engage with and encourage members during swim tests and lessons.
  • Develop intentional relationships and engage members.
  • Provide appropriate feedback to participants and members as needed.
  • Function as a point person for others in the same job position.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older upon hire.
  • Must be able to differentiate between colors (red, yellow, blue and green).
  • Ability to pass all standard safety drills with an 80% passing average.
  • Ability to swim 500 yards in 12 minutes or less. 400 yards is crawl and 100 must be breaststroke.
  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
  • Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.

REQUIRED LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS:

  • First Aid - Prerequisite upon hire.
  • Oxygen Cert- Prerequisite upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support- Prerequisite upon hire.
  • Y Lifeguard - Prerequisite upon hire.
