So, what does a Operations Manager do?
The Plant Manager, working under the direction of the Area Production Manager, is responsible for the efficient and safe operation of a concrete batch plant. This includes the physical production of concrete, the supervision of the Mixer Truck Drivers, and Plant Site Representatives, quality control measures, safety protocols, environmental protocols, inventory control, and plant maintenance.
ESSENTIAL TASKS: All Plant Managers must follow company policies, procedures, and management's instructions.
  • Be prompt and timely for all assigned shifts, schedules, and projects.
  • Safely batch concrete and load trucks according to their order specifications, ensuring the highest level of quality while striving for peak efficiencies.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance when reporting to work and throughout the day.
  • Consistently promote safety, professionalism, and efficiency.
  • Ensure all safety and environmental policies and regulations are followed.
  • Be aware of and familiar with the Employee Handbook and abide by all employment policies and regulations.
  • Oversee all Mixer Drivers and Yard Foremen; train, develop, and motivate employees towards accomplishing company goals and objectives.
  • Accurately record plant personnel time and attendance on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all vehicles and equipment continuously remain in safe and efficient operating condition by monitoring all preventive and regular maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform quality control testing procedures and communicate the results daily to your Area Production Manager on all raw materials and concrete.
  • Coordinate Mixer Truck Driver schedules with dispatch.
  • Perform routine plant maintenance and inspections and assist the assets department with troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly plant, batch house, yard, and fleet.
  • Compile and organize end of day documents, enter necessary data into company computer, and distribute as instructed.
  • Perform and report accurate inventories as required.
  • Submit requests for time off from all subordinates to your immediate Supervisor for approval and notify the subordinate of the decision.
  • Manage all returned concrete in accordance with practices that are directed; this includes reselling concrete, making blocks, and dumping concrete in approved locations.
  • Manage the working hours of all subordinates so that the Company makes the best use of payroll hours.
  • Reduce excess fuel consumption by monitoring unnecessary idling at the plant.
  • Regarding tardies and absences, the plant manager shall monitor, coach, and report all subordinates following the Attendance Policy.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested, including but not limited to sweeping, shoveling, and assisting other departments.
  • Report any and all HR related issues to the Area Production Manager, and/or the HR Director as soon as possible.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
      • Must successfully pass all random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and return to duty drug and alcohol testing.
      • Possess ACI/ NCDOT Level I Certification or have the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
      • Posses NCDOT Batch Certification or have the ability to obtain it within six months of employment.
      • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of concrete batching, technology, methods, equipment, and safety.
      • Must be able to take orders, instructions, and guidance from Managers.
      • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
      • Plant Managers are required to work Monday-Saturday and the Plant Manager must be depended upon to report to work at the scheduled time.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of concrete plant operations.
