How much do yard laborer jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 26, 2026, the average hourly pay for yard laborer in the United States is $16.78, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $15.14 and $17.79 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are yard laborers?

Yard laborers are workers who perform a variety of manual tasks outdoors, typically in industrial, construction, warehouse, or landscaping settings. Their duties may include loading and unloading materials, cleaning and organizing the yard or job site, operating basic equipment, and assisting skilled workers. Yard laborers play a crucial role in maintaining safety, efficiency, and cleanliness in the work area. They often need physical stamina and may work in various weather conditions. Some employers may require basic equipment operation skills or safety certifications.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

Yard laborer jobs typically do not pay $10,000 a month without specialized skills or experience. High-paying roles that reach this level often involve entrepreneurship, skilled trades, sales, or business ownership, which may not require a degree but do demand significant effort, expertise, or risk. Most jobs with such high earnings are either in sales, real estate, or involve running a successful business.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Yard Laborer, and why are they important?

To excel as a Yard Laborer, you need physical stamina, basic mechanical aptitude, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with hand tools, forklifts, pallet jacks, and sometimes basic inventory management systems is often required. Reliability, teamwork, and attention to safety make individuals stand out in this role. These skills ensure efficient, safe handling of materials and equipment, contributing to smooth operations in warehouses, construction sites, or industrial yards.

What are some common challenges Yard Laborers face and how can they be addressed?

Yard Laborers often encounter challenges such as working outdoors in varying weather conditions, handling heavy materials, and maintaining safety standards. Staying hydrated, wearing proper protective gear, and adhering to safety protocols help minimize risks. Effective communication with team members and staying organized also contribute to a smoother workflow, making it easier to manage physically demanding tasks and changing priorities throughout the day.

What does a yard labourer do?

A yard labourer is responsible for maintaining outdoor areas by performing tasks such as mowing lawns, trimming bushes, raking leaves, and general cleanup. They often operate tools like lawnmowers, trimmers, and blowers, working outdoors in various weather conditions. Physical stamina and basic knowledge of landscaping are helpful for this role.

What is the difference between Yard Laborer vs Landscape Laborer?

AspectYard LaborerLandscape Laborer
CredentialsNone typically requiredNone typically required

Employer & IndustryConstruction, landscaping, maintenance companiesLandscaping companies, garden centers
Job TasksBasic yard work, cleaning, haulingPlanting, trimming, installing landscape features

The roles are closely related but differ in scope and specific duties.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

Yard laborer positions typically do not pay $2000 a day, as they are usually hourly or daily wage jobs with modest pay. High-paying jobs that can reach $2000 a day often involve specialized skills, such as construction management, certain medical professions, or executive roles, rather than manual labor positions like yard work.

How to become a yard laborer?

To become a yard laborer, typically, you need a high school diploma or equivalent and physical stamina for outdoor work. Gaining experience with tools like lawnmowers, trimmers, and safety equipment is helpful, and some employers may require or prefer a valid driver's license. On-the-job training is common, and a reliable work schedule is important for consistent employment.
