Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced carpenter to join our team, primarily operating out of our downtown Indianapolis location. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various construction and carpentry tasks, with the ability to work effectively on diverse projects. This role requires a hands-on approach, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with other team members on-site.

Duties

Provide quality construction skills as required and directed by the Project Manager or Superintendent and according to all plans and specifications, which may include (but is not limited to):

  • Finish carpentry and trim work.
  • Installation of doors, frames, and all hardware.
  • Building/framing walls.
  • Install and finish drywall.
  • Building cabinets, stairs, etc.
  • Install ceiling systems.
  • Demolition.

Ensure quality and accuracy in all work, which includes (but is not limited to):

  • Measuring and marking cutting lines on materials.
  • Cutting and shaping wood, plastic, fiberglass, etc. to specifications.
  • Plumb to ensure trueness of structure; etc.

Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner according to OSHA 10, client and Wurster safety rules and guidelines, and other federal, state, and local requirements. Follow all established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.

Comply with all job site PPE as required. Inspect and report any issues with PPE equipment.

Work productively according to schedule to meet project time deadlines. Use power and hand tools, including saws, sanders, drills, chisels, fasters, levels, framing squares, etc., and other tools on the job to produce work.

Accurately record all hours worked to meet budget guidelines.

Comply with all job site/OSHA/tool or client PPE requirements. Inspect, document, and report any issues with PPE, tools, or other equipment.

Immediately report to the Project Manager any issues arising with jobs, whether quality, accuracy, unsafe work performance or conditions, etc.

Attend all project meetings as requested, including those with owners, subcontractors, and other Wurster employees.

Provide courteous, professional services to clients and present a positive image of Wurster Construction.

Skills

  • Proficiency in trim carpentry and frame carpentry practices.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools in a construction setting.
  • Familiarity with construction site operations and safety standards.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings accurately.
  • Skills in concrete forming, plastering, fabrication, rebar installation, roofing, woodworking, caulking, stucco application, heavy lifting techniques.
  • Background in restoration industry practices including water damage restoration and mold remediation.
  • Competence in cabinet installation, door hanging, maintenance person tasks, construction painting.
  • Experience with metal stud framing and CNC operations is a plus.

Experience, education, degrees, and licenses

Minimum of high-school education; prefer some post-secondary education including any formal education in the trades.

Minimum 3 years’ experience in a comparable position either in the commercial or residential construction industry.

Must have reliable transportation.

Must have a valid driver's license and current auto insurance.

Must be able to pass a drug test.

Physical demands

Must be able to work proficiently and safely with power and hand tools.

Must be able to haul material and lift at least 50 pounds and be able to climb stairs.

Work requires standing for extended periods of time, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling.
