Description:

Organization Summary: WOTA is a non-profit corporation operating in western Oakland County. WOTA is responsible for transporting elderly and disabled riders from one place to another for work, medical appointments, errands, or other reasons. It is funded by a county millage, government grants, community support, and fares provided by the riders. We are an equal opportunity employer.


Job Title: Dispatcher


Reports to: Dispatch Manager


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Answer phone calls with great customer service, phone etiquette, and communication skills with clients of all backgrounds. Patience and communication are a priority.
  • Knowledge of the WOTA Dispatch Manual and mission, territory, hours, drivers, and rider qualifications.
  • Support drivers, utilizing push-to-talk (PTT) phones and dispatch software.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of WOTA dispatch software and communication systems.
  • Perform data entry and run reports.
  • Make prompt route changes and decisions, based on communications with drivers and riders.
  • Create a routine and work successfully with a team or independently.
  • Attend all training required by management.
  • When necessary, perform driver duties.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Maintain a chauffer’s license in good standing *
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40# and push/pull a wheelchair.
  • Ability to perform all Driver duties as required.


Hours: Full-time or part-time, hours can range from 5:45am-10:00pm Mon-Sun. Overtime must be pre-approved.


* Maintaining a chauffer’s license as a dispatcher is not required if a disability precludes employee from being able to drive or obtain the license and the rest of the job requirements can be fulfilled.
