Job description

Description:

PMD is launching a brand-new Service Department in Victor, NY, and we’re looking for hands-on Field Service Engineers to help shape it.

You’ll be part of the core team building the service business, working directly with engineering, and supporting custom automation systems deployed around the world.

If you enjoy solving complex technical problems, working on unique machines, and getting out into the field, this is a high-impact opportunity with real growth potential.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You’ll split your time between the shop and the field, giving you a balance of hands-on build, debug, and controls work and real-world system and service support at customer sites.

  • Travel to customer sites for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and service support
  • Work alongside engineering and build teams to assemble, debug, and validate custom automation systems
  • Troubleshoot and optimize electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and control systems
  • Modify and support PLC, HMI, robotics, motion, and vision systems
  • Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
  • Respond to service calls (remote and onsite) to keep our customers running

TECHNICAL SCOPE

You should be comfortable working across multiple systems and stepping in wherever needed:

Controls & Automation

· PLC/HMI platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)

· Industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)

Robotics & Vision

· Industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, KUKA)

· Vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence)

Systems Integration

· Electrical troubleshooting, panel systems, and field wiring

· Pneumatics and mechanical systems

· Integration of peripherals and custom equipment

WHY THIS ROLE

  • Build something from the ground up – direct influence on a growing service organization
  • High-impact work – solve real problems on complex, custom systems
  • Technical ownership – trusted to make decisions and drive solutions
  • Variety – different machines, industries, and challenges
  • Growth path – opportunity to be instrumental and influential in the growth of the service business

COMPENSATION

  • $40 – $50/hr, based on experience
  • Overtime opportunities
  • 10% pay premium while travelling + per diem
Requirements:

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

  • 5+ years of experience in automation, controls, or field service (OEM experience preferred)
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex machine/system issues independently
  • Strong working knowledge of PLCs, robotics, and industrial automation systems
  • Comfortable in customer-facing environments and high-pressure situations
  • Willingness to travel (~40%)

Additional travel opportunities are available for those who prefer a higher percentage of field work.
