What are different types of jobs in workforce management?

Workforce management jobs are usually a part of the human resources department and focus on predicting the future needs of the company. In this field, you may create a plan to ensure each department has the necessary personnel, determine whether or not the company needs to train people before they can provide the needed services, and support the overall development of the business. Workforce managers frequently collect and use data to understand employee efficiency and how many personnel are required to ensure the company continues functioning. Most workforce management roles also determine how many extra employees the company needs. It is not acceptable for the entire business to shut down because one person is out sick, so having a backup or plan for problems with every position in the company is part of this job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a workforce management role, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Workforce Management role, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of labor laws, and experience with staffing strategies, often supported by a degree in business, HR, or a related field. Familiarity with workforce management software such as Kronos, ADP, or SAP SuccessFactors, and relevant certifications like SHRM-CP or PHR are common requirements. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help professionals effectively balance operational needs and employee satisfaction. These abilities are crucial for optimizing staffing efficiency, compliance, and overall organizational productivity.

What is a workforce?

A workforce is the total number of people who are employed or available for employment in a particular organization, industry, or economy. It includes all individuals who are working or actively seeking work. Workforce management involves planning, hiring, training, and retaining employees to meet organizational goals. Understanding the workforce is crucial for ensuring that a business has the right number of employees with the necessary skills to operate efficiently.

What are some common challenges faced by workforce analysts, and how can new hires effectively address them?

Workforce analysts often encounter challenges such as balancing shifting business demands with accurate staffing forecasts, handling large sets of workforce data, and communicating insights to stakeholders who may not have a data background. New hires can effectively address these by developing strong analytical skills, becoming proficient in workforce management tools, and building relationships with operations and HR teams to better understand their needs. Regularly collaborating with team members and seeking feedback can also help new workforce analysts refine their approach and deliver more actionable recommendations.

WORKFORCE MANAGER

Metrocrest Services

Carrollton, TX โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Job description

Description:

ABOUT METROCREST SERVICES

Metrocrest Services provides hope and builds pathways to economic mobility for neighbors across the north Dallas area. We operate a whole-household, Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)-aligned model organized around five pillars: Income, Health & Food, Workforce, Education/Training, and Housing. We call the people we serve “Neighbors” because they are members of our community, not cases to be managed, and every team member is expected to bring dignity, curiosity, and a whole-household perspective to their work.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Workforce Manager helps neighbors build meaningful pathways to employment, career growth, and long-term economic stability. In this role, you'll coach neighbors, cultivate partnerships with local employers, and connect people to education, training, and career opportunities aligned with their goals, bringing labor market knowledge, strategic thinking, and a strengths-based approach to every interaction. This role primarily works 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends based on program needs.

Requirements:

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Workforce Specialists, setting direction and supporting their professional growth
  • Build and maintain employer partnerships — developing hiring pipelines, coordinating job fairs, and negotiating on-the-job training opportunities
  • Design and oversee job readiness programming, including workshops, one-on-one coaching, and structured curricula
  • Connect neighbors to skills training and credentialing programs aligned with in-demand industries
  • Track workforce outcomes in Salesforce and report program data, metrics, and results to leadership
  • Collaborate across program pillars so employment goals are embedded in each neighbor's whole-household coaching plan
  • Represent Metrocrest in workforce development coalitions and employer engagement networks

WHO YOU ARE

  • Culturally humble, with an equity-minded approach to the systemic barriers neighbors face and the ability to hold empathy and accountability at once
  • Patient and persistent; understands that workforce readiness is a pathway, not a single event, and celebrates incremental progress alongside employment placement outcomes
  • Energetic and connector-minded; builds employer relationships not as transactions but as long-term partnerships that benefit both neighbors and the business community
  • Energetic about the work and understands that passion and professionalism are not mutually exclusive in this role

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Human Services, Business, Workforce Development, or a related field
  • 5–8 years of experience in workforce or career development within a nonprofit, social service, or community-based setting
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience leading a workforce or related program team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Salesforce (or a comparable case management system), and virtual collaboration tools
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to execute programs with limited supervision

PREFERRED

  • Experience with sector-based workforce development, employer partnership development, or on-the-job training design
  • Familiarity with Texas Workforce Commission (TWC), Workforce Solutions, or a comparable public workforce system
  • Experience with SDOH-aligned program models and whole-household assessment frameworks
  • Bilingual English/Spanish a plus

WHY METROCREST

Join an organization in an exciting season of transformation, building a whole-household model that puts neighbors at the center of everything we do. This role offers the opportunity to shape how workforce services are delivered across the communities we serve.

BENEFITS

  • Salary for this FLSA-exempt position is commensurate with experience
  • Employer-sponsored medical insurance through BCBSTX with employer contribution toward monthly premiums, effective the first day of the month following the date of hire
  • Employer-sponsored dental (Principal) and vision insurance, effective the first day of the month following the date of hire
  • Employer-paid group term life insurance (Principal)
  • Employer-paid long-term disability (Principal)
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching 1/2:1 (up to 6%)
  • Generous paid time off package, including vacation, personal time off, and paid holidays
  • Paid parental leave
  • Training and development opportunities
  • Tuition reimbursement

EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Metrocrest Services provides equal employment opportunity to all persons regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, disability, race, religion, creed, gender, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, or any other characteristic protected by law.

In accordance with the ADA, Metrocrest Services is willing to consider any reasonable accommodation.
