Job description

We are looking for a dedicated and reliable School Custodian to join our team at Primero Staffing. As a School Custodian, you will play a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Your Key Responsibilities may include:

Cleaning and Sanitization: Perform routine cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and disinfecting, throughout the school premises, including classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.

Trash Removal: Regularly empty trash bins and recycling containers, ensuring proper disposal and compliance with waste management regulations.

Restocking Supplies: Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, restroom essentials, and other consumables as needed to maintain adequate stock levels.

Floor and Surface Care: Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of floors, walls, windows, and other surfaces through regular maintenance and spot cleaning.

Maintenance Reporting: Report any maintenance issues or repair needs to the appropriate personnel, such as malfunctioning equipment, broken fixtures, or building damage.

Event Support: Assist with setting up and cleaning up after school events, meetings, and activities, as required.

Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety protocols and guidelines, particularly regarding the use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

Security Measures: Assist with security-related tasks, such as locking and unlocking doors and gates, to ensure the safety and security of the school premises.

Duties

  • Perform comprehensive cleaning of classrooms, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, and other school areas using appropriate cleaning equipment and supplies
  • Handle chemical agents safely according to established safety protocols, including mixing, storage, and disposal procedures
  • May operate floor buffers, scrubbers, vacuums, and other custodial equipment to maintain floors in excellent condition
  • Conduct routine inspections of facilities to identify maintenance needs such as repairs or safety hazards
  • Follow safety procedures diligently during heavy lifting or manual handling tasks to prevent injuries
  • May maintain sanitation standards by disinfecting surfaces regularly and ensuring restrooms are clean and stocked with supplies
  • Contribute to a positive school environment through friendly customer service when interacting with staff and visitors

Qualifications

  • Prior janitorial or custodial experience in a commercial or educational setting preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques, equipment operation (including floor buffers), and sanitation practices preferred but not required
  • Experience handling chemicals safely in accordance with safety protocols and chemical handling safety procedures
  • Ability to perform heavy team lifting (up to 50lbs) safely while following proper lifting practices
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills for maintaining cleanliness standards
  • Good communication skills and adhering to safety guidelines
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
