Job description

The Manager of Manufacturing & Workplace Training provides leadership, coordination, and oversight for the Collegeโ€™s manufacturing and workplace training initiatives. As a manager-level professional, this position ensures that programs, services, and instructional activities are delivered effectively, meet institutional standards, and align with workforce and employer needs across the region. The Manager exercises independent judgment in program development, instructor supervision, industry engagement, compliance, and operational decision-making while maintaining strong partnerships with employers, vendors, and community stakeholders. This role is responsible for developing and delivering hands-on and classroom training, coordinating workforce programs, supervising instructional staff, managing budgets and grants, and supporting the Collegeโ€™s mission to advance workforce development and strengthen employer partnerships.


Education & Experience Requirements

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

Education

  • Required:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in industrial management, engineering, or a closely related field: OR
  • Associate degree in industrial technology, engineering technology, or a closely related field with an additional four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in manufacturing or an industrial training environment, which may include program coordination, instructional delivery, and/or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Preferred:
  • Masterโ€™s degree in industrial management, engineering, or a closely related field.

Experience

  • Required:
    • Three (3) years of work experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Preferred:
  • Two (2) years of experience serving in a lead, supervisory, or management role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in teaching, professional training, or staff development.
  • Six Sigma certification.
  • Experience working with industry, government, and/or community agencies.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have and maintain a valid State of Illinois driverโ€™s license.
  • Travel is required for this position.


Essential Functions & Position Duties

Program Development & Instruction

  • Develop customized manufacturing and workplace training programs, including curriculum design, scheduling, and instructional delivery.
  • Deliver hands-on and classroom instruction in manufacturing processes, including mathematics, electrical, and mechanical topics.
  • Develop and update instructional materials such as textbooks, handouts, and other resources.
  • Conduct assessments of learning outcomes and implement continuous improvement strategies.
  • Oversee delivery of workplace training, providing instruction directly when necessary and coordinating instructors.

Industry & Partner Engagement

  • Collaborate with employers and workforce stakeholders to identify training needs and implement customized solutions.
  • Coordinate partnerships with regional businesses to ensure training aligns with workforce demands.
  • Manage advisory boards, coordinate events, and represent the College in employerโ€‘facing engagements.
  • Serve as the Collegeโ€™s primary liaison to manufacturing partners and workplace training stakeholders.

Program Management & Oversight

  • Develop and manage the Smart Machine Maintenance Technician program.
  • Coordinate curriculum alignment, scheduling, staffing, and program delivery.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and support instructors to ensure highโ€‘quality instruction.
  • Advise administration on manufacturing program needs, including forecasting equipment and curriculum requirements.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and training providers to support program operations.

Grant, Budget, & Administrative Functions

  • Assist with grant writing, implementation, reporting, and compliance.
  • Support budget development and oversight; process payroll, invoices, and procurement; and maintain program schedules and documentation.
  • Maintain accurate program records and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

Assessment, Compliance, & Learning Systems

  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure program relevance and compliance.
  • Proctor exams and input test results into D2L and other learning management systems.
