Job Description Summary

The Analyst - Reporting Optimization is responsible for improving the effectiveness, quality, and sustainability of institutional reporting. This role combines hands-on reporting and analytical work with process development leadership to establish and maintain reporting standards, optimize processes, and ensure alignment with institutional priorities and data governance practices. This position coordinates reporting optimization efforts across teams while delivering high-impact reporting and data quality improvements.

Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Reporting Optimization and Standardization

  • Evaluate existing reports to assess accuracy, efficiency, and alignment with institutional priorities

  • Identify redundant, outdated, or low-value reports and recommend consolidation or retirement

  • Redesign reports collaboratively with Reporting team to improve usability, clarity, and performance

  • Curate and maintain base data sets, develop standardized report structures, naming conventions, and documentation practices.

  • Work with the reporting team as needed on new report and dashboard needs to ensure compliance and operational reporting needs are met

Data Validation and Quality Assurance

  • Perform and lead validation of data outputs to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability

  • Identify discrepancies and partner with data owners to resolve root causes

  • Establish and maintain validation protocols for recurring and high-impact reports

  • Support compliance with internal and external reporting requirements

Process Improvement and Workflow Optimization

  • Analyze reporting workflows to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and rework

  • Lead implementation of process improvements to improve turnaround time and service levels

  • Support development and application of prioritization frameworks (e.g., tiered reporting, intake processes)

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts using established methodologies (e.g., PDCA)

Functional Leadership and Coordination

  • Provide guidance to and collaborate with reporting analysts on reporting standards and best practices

  • Lead prioritization of reporting optimization efforts in alignment with institutional needs

  • Lead testing and implementation of semiannual Workday releases and reporting updates

  • Serve as a central coordination point for reporting improvement initiatives

  • Influence decisions related to report creation, redesign, consolidation, or retirement

Data Governance Alignment

  • Ensure reporting practices align with institutional data governance standards

  • Partner with data stewards to improve data definitions, consistency, and appropriate usage

  • Support secure and appropriate report distribution and access controls

  • Identify and escalate risks related to data quality, reporting gaps, or access concerns

Collaboration and Stakeholder Support

  • Partner with institutional research, IT, and business units to clarify reporting needs

  • Translate business questions into optimized reporting solutions

  • Provide guidance on appropriate use of existing reports versus development of new reports

  • Support communication and training related to reporting standards and tools

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business, or related field

  • Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in reporting, data analysis, or business intelligence

  • Experience working with enterprise systems (e.g., ERP platforms such as Workday)

  • Demonstrated experience with data validation and quality assurance practices

  • Experience with reporting and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, or similar)

  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education or public sector environments

  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks and practices

  • Experience improving or redesigning reporting processes

  • Knowledge of SQL or other data querying languages

  • Experience influencing work without formal supervisory authority

Additional Information
