Job description

The grounds workers maintain and care for the Middlebury College grounds seasonally: April 1 - November 13, 2026.


This is a part time, non-benefits eligible, hourly position. The hiring range for the position is $20.52 to $25.13

per hour.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
  • Set up for major college events.
  • Assist with equipment repair.
  • Operate equipment for summer grounds maintenance.
  • Remove litter and debris.
  • Prepare Athletic fields for games, including marking fields and equipment set-up.
  • Prepare topsoil, seed, water, fertilize areas for new grasses.
  • Maintain turf areas.
  • Plant, water, prune and mulch flower beds, shrub and tree beds.
  • Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist General Services and Recycling work areas.
  • Perform associated facilities service maintenance work including plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma helpful
  • Vocational background preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have knowledge of proper use of equipment and must be willing to be trained as required
  • Previous experience in lawn and landscape maintenance desired
  • Some knowledge of horticulture or landscape maintenance needed
  • Driver’s license and good driving skills required
  • Good interpersonal skills necessary

Experience: 1-2 years experience in lawn and landscape maintenance
