System Admin & Solution Architect, Workday HCM

The Workday HCM System Administrator & Solution Architect is responsible for the overall design, configuration, maintenance, and optimization of the Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) platform. This role serves as both a technical expert and a strategic partner, ensuring that Workday supports the organization’s HR operations, business objectives, and employee experience.

Responsibilities:

 

System Administration & Configuration

  • Manage day-to-day administration of the Workday HCM platform, including security, roles, business process configuration, and data management.
  • Configure and maintain core HCM modules such as Core HR, Absence, Time Tracking, Compensation, Talent, Recruiting, and Performance.
  • Develop and implement Workday business processes, calculated fields, condition rules, and EIB integrations.
  • Maintain data accuracy through audits, validations, and proactive system monitoring.

Solution Architecture & Design

  • Serve as the primary architect for Workday-related projects and enhancements, aligning solutions with business goals and technical standards.
  • Translate HR and business requirements into functional and technical specifications.
  • Lead the design and implementation of new modules, functionality, and system integrations (Workday to downstream systems such as Payroll, Finance, or third-party vendors).
  • Evaluate and recommend system improvements, upgrades, and innovations to optimize user experience and process efficiency.

Governance & Support

  • Establish and maintain Workday governance, documentation, and change management processes.
  • Manage Workday releases and ensure timely testing, communication, and adoption of new features.
  • Partner with HR, Payroll, IT, and external vendors to troubleshoot and resolve system issues.
  • Maintain system security, user access controls, and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration & Leadership

  • Act as a strategic advisor to HR leadership on Workday capabilities and process optimization.
  • Provide training, support, and mentorship to HR and technical team members on Workday functionality.
  • Lead cross-functional projects and serve as the liaison between HR, IT, and external Workday consultants.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Workday HCM, including system administration, configuration, and architecture.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing Workday solutions across multiple HCM modules.

  

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep understanding of Workday data model, business processes, and security framework.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Experience with integration tools (EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio, API) and report writing (Advanced, Matrix, Composite Reports).
  • Occasional travel required, 10% - 20%.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualification

  • Workday certification(s) in HCM Core, Reporting, Security, or Integration are highly preferred.
  • Experience with Workday Extend or Prism Analytics.
  • Prior experience in global or multi-entity Workday environments.
  • Active role in Workday implementation within the last 5 years strongly preferred

  • IT Product Strategy: Define and communicate a comprehensive IT product strategy that aligns with the organization's overall business strategy. Develop and maintain a product roadmap that outlines key initiatives and enhancements.

  • Product Development: Lead the product development process, defining product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria. Work with engineering teams to prioritize and execute product enhancements.
  • Product Launch: Plan and execute product launches, including developing go-to-market strategies, pricing strategies, and marketing campaigns. Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to ensure successful product introductions.
  • Product Metrics: Define and track key performance metrics for IT products, such as system uptime, reliability, performance, and user satisfaction. Use data-driven insights to drive product improvements.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the IT product budget, including resource allocation, cost control, and financial forecasting.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges associated with IT product development and deployment.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate the IT product vision, strategy, and progress to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment and buy-in from all relevant teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
Field of Study: Business, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent job-related experience. PMI Certification is desired but not required.
Experience Requirements: 8+ years of experience in project management of varied complexities and scope.

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear the telephone, ability to enter data on a computer, and may also require the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
