Workday System Administrator (HCM & Financials)
Good Faith Pay Range: In accordance with Virginia law, the good-faith pay range for this position is $90,000 - $125,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience, skills, and other legitimate business factors.
This position will be based at our Virginia Beach, VA location.
Position Summary
The administrator will own ongoing day to day administration, configuration, and support of the platform across both modules, serving as the technical backbone for HR, Payroll, and Finance operations university wide. This role works most closely with HR and Finance working teams daily, with regular input into a joint HR and Finance leadership governance structure.
Collaboration and Governance
  • Work closely with ECPI's system integrator, implementation consultants, and internal project team throughout the 11-month implementation to support a successful go live.
  • Partner day to day with HR, Payroll, and Finance staff on configuration needs, issue resolution, and process design.
  • Participate in a cross functional governance council with HR and Finance leadership, providing structured input into prioritization.
  • Engage with campus level and shared services leadership across ECPI's multi campus structure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with ECPI's system integrator, implementation consultants, and internal project team to configure, test, and validate Workday HCM and Financials throughout the implementation, prior to go live.
  • Administer Workday HCM and Financials, including security groups, business process configuration, organization structures, and approval routing across ECPI's multi campus, matrixed reporting model.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for HR, Payroll, and Finance teams on system configuration, issue resolution, and process questions.
  • Own and maintain integrations (EIB, Core Connectors, Workday Studio) between Workday and adjacent systems, including the university's SIS and enterprise data platform.
  • Document configuration decisions and business process logic to support consistent, sustainable system administration.
  • Support and train HR, Payroll, and Finance staff, including remote employees and consultants, on system use.
  • Partner with the data and analytics team to ensure Workday data flows cleanly into ECPI's unified data platform.
  • Work directly with Workday to test new features and functionality in ECPI's tenant ahead of each bi-annual release, and communicate relevant changes and impacts to HR, Payroll, and Finance functional teams once live.
  • Participate in testing, validation, and change management for Workday releases, tenant updates, and configuration changes.
  • Provide regular updates to HR and Finance leadership through ECPI's Workday governance council.

Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on Workday system administration experience, spanning both HCM and Financials.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring Workday security groups, business processes, and organizational and reporting structures, including approval routing in matrixed environments.
  • Experience with Workday integration tools (EIB, Core Connectors, and/or Workday Studio).
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to translate business needs into system configuration.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff across HR, Finance, and IT.
  • Ability to work on site in Virginia Beach, VA.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, or a related field; or 6+ years of progressively responsible IT systems administration experience (including enterprise HRIS platform administration) in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience participating in a Workday implementation project alongside a system integrator or implementation partner.
  • Experience administering Workday in a higher education, multi campus, or shared services organizational environment.
  • Workday certification(s) in HCM and/or Financials administration or configuration.
  • Interest in Workday's emerging zero copy data integration capabilities. This is a new and growing area of the platform, and this role offers the opportunity to develop expertise at the forefront of that functionality as it matures.
  • Experience supporting distributed teams, including remote employees and third-party consultants.

Work Environment
This role is based full time in ECPI's Virginia Beach office. The majority of day to day work involves direct collaboration with HR, Payroll, and Finance working teams, with regular touchpoints with HR and Finance leadership through ECPI's Workday governance council. The administrator will also coordinate with remote employees and external consultants, requiring clear documentation and strong asynchronous communication habits.
