Job description

Step Up Tutoring is a non-profit organization that drives student success in under-resourced communities by providing free virtual tutoring and mentorship to elementary school students. Step Up recruits, trains, and supports tutors to deliver virtual high-impact tutoring for students in grades 2nd-6th. Student workers will provide 1-on-1 tutoring to 2nd-6th grade students to help build fundamental math and literacy skills and to provide support and encouragement. All tutoring will take place virtually and no prior tutoring experience is needed. Student workers will be matched with a minimum of 3 students, which is 7 hours of work a week, and may tutor more students based on award amount and on schedule/total hours of availability.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work virtually with students in 2nd-6th grade for 45-minute sessions, a minimum of twice a week.
  • Tutor/Mentor a minimum of 3 students.
  • Focus on building fundamental math and literacy skills using evidence-based online programs.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALSMinimum Qualifications
  • No tutoring experience required.
  • Enrolled in a degree-seeking program at Liberty University.
  • Have Federal Work Study eligibility.
  • Have 7 to 20 hours of work availability per week.
  • Must pass various background checks, including, but not limited to, a check at the time of initial employment and subsequent checks on behalf of the Federal Work Study Community Service Project site as well as Liberty University. Failure to pass a background check will result in immediate termination.
  • Individual must not be in default on any federal student or parent loan.
  • Individual must not be convicted of, or pled nolo contendere or guilty to, a crime involving the acquisition, use, or expenditure of federal, state, or local government funds, -or- be administratively or judicially determined to have committed fraud or any other material violation of law involving federal, state, or local government funds (CFR 668.14(b)(18)(i)).
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least a second-year student at Liberty University preferred.
  • Must be in good standing (no reprimands or suspensions).
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.

  • Strong sense of self-discipline and good time management skills.
