Job description

Taft Community College was established on August 30, 1922 as part of the Taft Union High School District. The school title officially became Taft College on July 1, 1954 and in September of 1956 a separate campus opened in the current location at 29 Cougar court, adjacent to the high school The West Kern Community College District was later formed, and is a single-college-district under the guidance of a five-member Board of Trustees. Work Study Responsibilities

Primary Function:
The Student Worker will serve as the primary point of contact for the MESA Program's social media presence. This position is responsible for creating engaging digital content that promotes MESA events, student success stories, campus resources, and program initiatives while maintaining a consistent and professional online presence.

Required:

Experience creating content for social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, or TikTok.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the MESA Program's social media accounts across designated platforms.
  • Develop, create, schedule, and publish engaging content that supports program goals and student engagement.
  • Monitor social media activity, respond to comments and messages as appropriate, and help maintain a positive online community.
  • Collaborate with MESA staff to promote events, workshops, deadlines, and student achievements.
  • Track social media performance and provide recommendations for increasing engagement and outreach.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with outreach, recruitment, and student engagement activities.
  • Support staff in planning, coordinating, and executing student events and workshops.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention efforts, including presentations and campus tours.
  • Represent the college and MESA Program at on- and off-campus events.
  • Complete assigned projects and meet established deadlines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
  • Basic photography skills for capturing events and student activities.
  • Basic video recording and video editing skills using software such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, Canva, or similar applications.
  • Strong written communication skills and creativity in developing engaging digital content.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.

Student Works will work various shifts Monday-Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
