Field Service Engineer - Industrial Automation and Manufacturing Equipment - Base Salary to 90k/year - Milwaukee, WI

  • Our client is a leading provider of advanced manufacturing equipment and automation solutions serving industrial and production environments. They are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, upgrades, and customer training activities at manufacturing facilities throughout North America.
  • This position is ideal for an engineer or technical professional with strong mechanical, electrical, automation, and controls experience who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working directly with customers, and traveling to support equipment performance, reliability, and productivity.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, commission, and support manufacturing equipment and industrial automation systems at customer facilities.
  • Supervise equipment installation activities to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, project requirements, and operational standards.
  • Inspect equipment deliveries prior to installation and communicate deficiencies or concerns to customers and project teams.
  • Coordinate installation, startup, and commissioning activities with customers, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment upgrades on manufacturing and automation systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, controls, PLC, automation, and production equipment issues to restore operational performance.
  • Support equipment startups and commissioning activities while ensuring successful customer acceptance and operational readiness.
  • Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, productivity, efficiency, and overall system performance.
  • Provide technical support to customers during startup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Train customer operators, technicians, and maintenance personnel on equipment operation, preventative maintenance procedures, and best practices.
  • Serve as a technical resource for customers and provide professional service and support throughout project execution.
  • Communicate project status, work progress, travel schedules, service findings, and technical recommendations to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Document service activities, maintenance findings, repairs, upgrades, and recommendations following customer visits.
  • Prepare service reports, maintenance recommendations, quotations, and spare parts recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate service records and identify future maintenance, upgrade, and support opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through documentation of process improvements and operational recommendations.
  • Follow company safety procedures, customer site requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through leadership, accountability, and adherence to safe work practices.
  • Complete assignments within established timelines, budgets, and quality standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent technical training and experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience in field service, industrial maintenance, commissioning, automation, controls, manufacturing equipment support, or industrial equipment troubleshooting.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience troubleshooting and supporting industrial automation systems, manufacturing equipment, production machinery, or automated production systems.
  • Experience with commissioning, startup, preventative maintenance, and repair of industrial equipment.
  • Experience working directly with customers in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of PLC-based control systems, automation equipment, and industrial controls.
  • Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, approximately 75–150 days annually.
