Who is a Systems Technician at SMT?

Are you a sports fan? Do you enjoy working hands-on with computer systems, cables, and electronics equipment? Are you someone who likes solving technical problems and improving system performance?


If you answered yes to these questions, we have a great opportunity for you to join our SMT team as a Hardware & Systems Technician!


As a Systems Technician, youโ€™ll play a critical role in building, maintaining, and improving the hardware systems that power SMTโ€™s innovative sports technology solutions. While primarily campus-based, this role may occasionally support broader operational needs across SMT.


In this role, you will join the Systems team within Durham Operations. This is an on-site position based in Durham, NC division. This is a full-time position, with a schedule of Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm.


What is Your Daily Impact as a Systems Technician?

Some of the main challenges youโ€™ll tackle in this role include:

  • Building and maintaining PC systems, cable assemblies, and supporting hardware within SMT inventory
  • Supporting hardware systems used both in the field and on SMTโ€™s campus
  • Investigating and recommending enhancements to improve equipment reliability
  • Partnering with the Asset Manager to maintain accurate tracking and control of hardware assets
  • Providing technical expertise across departments on hardware configurations and support equipment
  • Documenting system deployments, including video, data, and peripheral interfaces
  • Analyzing system failures and contribute to trend analysis to improve overall reliability

What Do You Bring to SMT?

  • Associateโ€™s Degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of computer hardware and software systems
  • Experience using electronic test equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, datasheets, and work instructions
  • Proficiency with hand tools and small power tools
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaborate within a team
  • Willingness to support work outside of core responsibilities when needed
