What kind of work can registered nurses do remotely?

Registered nurses working remotely often perform tasks such as patient education, care coordination, telehealth consultations, and medical documentation. They typically use electronic health records and communication tools to support patient care from home, requiring relevant certifications and strong communication skills.

What are the common challenges nurses face when participating in a Work From Home RN Refresher program?

A common challenge for nurses enrolling in a Work From Home RN Refresher program is adapting to virtual learning platforms and managing self-paced study alongside personal responsibilities at home. Participants may also find it difficult to gain hands-on clinical experience remotely, which is often supplemented by virtual simulations or local clinical placements. Staying motivated and organized without the structure of an in-person classroom requires strong time management skills. However, these programs offer flexible schedules and support from online instructors and peer forums, helping nurses overcome these hurdles and successfully prepare for re-entry into the workforce.

What is a Work From Home RN Refresher?

A Work From Home RN Refresher is a course or program designed to help registered nurses (RNs) update their skills and knowledge after a period away from clinical practice, while allowing them to complete coursework online from home. These programs typically cover essential nursing topics, recent changes in healthcare, and hands-on skills through virtual simulations or local clinical placements. They are ideal for nurses returning to the workforce or seeking to renew their licenses. The flexibility of working from home makes it convenient for those balancing other responsibilities.

Job description

We are so glad you are interested in joining Sutter Health!

Organization:

SHSO-Population Health Services-Utah

Position Overview:

MIST Registered Nurse (RN) - Position Summary
The Multidisciplinary Inbasket Support Team (MIST) Registered Nurse is a highly skilled ambulatory care nurse who provides comprehensive, remote clinical support to primary care patients and providers across Sutter Health. Working entirely in a virtual environment, MIST RNs deliver telephonic and electronic care using Epic and My Health Online (MHO), serving as an extension of primary care practices while ensuring patients receive timely, safe, and evidence-based care.
MIST RNs assess patient symptoms and concerns through telephone encounters and secure electronic messaging, utilizing the nursing process, clinical judgment, physician collaboration, and Sutter Health-approved telephone triage guidelines and protocols to determine the appropriate level of care, provider, and timing for each patient's needs. They play a critical role in improving patient access by directing patients to the right care, with the right provider, at the right time.
In addition to telephone triage, MIST RNs manage electronic in-basket messages, coordinate care across ambulatory and acute care settings, facilitate prescription renewal workflows in collaboration with licensed providers, identify appropriate hospital and community resources, coordinate referrals and consultations, and perform nursing follow-up to support continuity of care and positive patient outcomes.
As integral members of the primary care team, MIST RNs partner closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, clinic staff, and interdisciplinary teams to manage patient communications within the electronic medical record, optimize workflow efficiency, and ensure high-quality, patient-centered care. Success in this role requires strong clinical assessment skills, exceptional communication, independent decision-making, proficiency in Epic, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fully remote work environment while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
