Job description

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Work Comp Coordinator to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring accurate verification of work comp insurance coverage and obtaining authorizations for patients, facilitating smooth operations within our medical office. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in work comp and medical office procedures, along with a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology and coding practices. Orthopedics experience is a plus. AthenaOne experience is a plus.
Duties
  • Conduct thorough insurance verification for patients prior to their appointments.
  • Obtain authorization from nurse case managers as needed.
  • Obtain referrals for patients as per workcomp insurance policy guidelines.
  • Review and interpret insurance policies to determine coverage levels and eligibility.
  • Communicate with insurance companies to resolve discrepancies or obtain additional information.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient insurance information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to ensure proper coding of services using CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Assist in the management of medical records and documentation related to insurance claims.
  • Provide support in billing processes by ensuring all necessary information is collected and verified.
Requirements
  • Proven experience in a medical office setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with managed care systems and procedures is essential.
  • Strong knowledge of HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, CPT coding and ICD-10.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for accurate data entry and record keeping.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while managing individual responsibilities effectively.
