WORK YEAR: Part-time 10- 15 hrs per week
SALARY RANGE: $17.50 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
A college degree and/or teacher certification is preferred. Previous experience working with elementary aged school children providing enrichment instruction is a must. Successful applicants will have a demonstrated passion and/or talent in an interest or hobby that they want to share with children through student-centered, goal-oriented, project-based learning and must have skills/expertise in that area of instruction.. Other qualities sought include excellent verbal and written communication skills, use of technology, a growth mindset, proactive problem solving, teamwork, innovative thinking, creativity, patience, and flexibility.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The 21st Century Extended Day Program mission is to nurture intellectual curiosity and reinforce self-confidence in our students through goal-oriented, project-based learning that builds practical skills and develops character. We are currently hiring educators interested in sharing their talents and experiences in the fields of STEM, Arts/Crafts, and Fitness/Health with our elementary students. Our program runs for 3 hours in the afternoon from Monday to Friday (roughly 2:30pm-5:30pm). Work hours and days are flexible depending on the availability of our instructors and the programming needs of our five sites.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Afterschool Instructors create a safe, positive, environment that supports children's social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. They create lesson plans for and lead thematically-integrated enrichment activities within the broader context of larger projects that nurture a child's love of learning and reinforce the child's self-confidence through skill-building and character-development. These activities, although not remedial in nature, should nevertheless reinforce the grade-level math and literacy learning that occurs during the regular school day.
