Department Summary

The Study Abroad Office is responsible for coordinating the university's study abroad and exchange programs. Study Abroad has a mandate to expand student participation and to integrate study abroad into the UNT curriculum. We aim to develop new opportunities to meet the unique needs of the UNT community and increase student access to global educational experiences.

Position Overview

This position oversees study abroad outreach, engagement, and program assessment to expand student access to and participation in high-impact global learning experiences by supporting student success, retention, and career readiness. Through coordinated marketing, targeted outreach, accessible digital platforms, and peer engagement, it ensures students are informed, supported, and able to identify and pursue global opportunities. The role enhances program quality by generating and distributing assessment data to improve student experiences and outcomes across academic populations. It supports post-experience development through re-entry initiatives that help students translate international learning into academic, personal, and career outcomes, preparing them to contribute effectively in a global workforce.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years of experience in communications, marketing, advertising, or public relations; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Thorough understanding of market segmentation, principles of marketing, integrated marketing communications principles and branding.
* Ability to provide support for student development with a demonstrable concern for students.
* Demonstrated problem solving, time management, and process improvement skills.
* Ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty, and staff across campus.
* Proficiency in MS Office and requisite publishing, graphic design and media tools.
* Ability to think creatively, organize tasks, work independently and meet deadlines.
* Considerable knowledge of Associated Press style.
* Ability to visually inspect products in multiple formats and assess and improve.
* Ability to coordinate and supervise the work of others.

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working, studying, or living abroad or other significant intercultural experience.
* Experience managing expenses and budgeting for marketing initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
* Proven track record in marketing and promotional activities, preferably within an educational context.
* Proficiency in digital marketing tools and social media platforms.
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate large scale events.
* Leadership and team management skills, particularly in supervising student volunteers or interns.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support and advise students effectively.
* Experience developing and facilitating activities and workshops for students focusing on leveraging their international experience for career development.
* Familiarity with CRM systems (especially Terra Dotta), data analysis, and reporting tools.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties

  • Directs the marketing and promotion strategy for study abroad programs to increase student awareness, access, and participation. Develops and implements targeted communications, materials, and events to promote programs and reduce barriers to engagement. Coordinates outreach activities and assigns work to staff and volunteers to achieve enrollment goals. Manages the marketing budget in accordance with fiscal guidelines and best practices. Collaborates with study abroad staff on resources and workshops for faculty leaders to support effective program marketing. 
  • Oversees the Study Abroad Ambassadors program. Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises student ambassadors to support outreach and recruitment efforts. Monitors participation and ensures effective engagement with prospective students. 
  • Manages the content and functionality of the website and Terra Dotta application system. Ensures information is accurate, accessible, and supports student navigation of program options and application processes. 
  • Designs and conducts assessment of student experiences and program effectiveness across all program types. Analyzes and synthesizes data to inform program improvements and support leadership decision-making. - 
  • Develops and delivers re-entry programming that helps students reflect on and apply their international experiences. Creates and maintains resources to support student reflection, career readiness, and continued engagement in international opportunities.
