Job description

This hourly role follows the Scotts/Hawthorne step pay progression scale and typically starts at $29.40 per hour and is paid weekly. Scotts/Hawthorne will consider various factors in determining the actual pay including your skills, qualifications, experience, and geographical location.
What you'll do in this role:
  • Material Handling: Following standard operation procedures for the operation of raw material unloading systems. Work includes maintaining the supply of raw materials to the process. Unloading of raw materials which includes a variety of components, keeping accurate records of material used for Coir Processing. Must be able to perform corrective and preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Process Milling: follow the standard operation procedures for the operation of Coir milling systems. Work includes, but is not limited to: maintaining accurate records, housekeeping, monitoring operation of milling, performing cleaning tasks to maintain the operation of the equipment and conveying systems. Must be able to perform corrective and preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Process Compacting: follow the standard operating procedures for the compacting phase of the operation, monitors compacting equipment to ensure that product quality standards are met. Work includes, but is not limited to, performing cleaning tasks to maintain the operation of the equipment and conveying systems, maintaining dust collectors, housekeeping and maintaining accurate records. Must be able to perform corrective and preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Blending: follow the standard operating procedures for the operation of the blenders to ensure that product quality standards are met. Work includes, but is not limited to, the calibration of feeders, the monitoring of process conditions and flow rates, the cleaning of the equipment, housekeeping, maintaining dust collection and maintaining accurate records. Must be able to perform corrective and preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Perform a variety of job tasks that support the operation of equipment and manufacturing of product. Tasks include, but are not limited to, reblending, PM activities, cleaning of equipment, collection of samples and data, maintain accurate records, completing inspections and audits. Work may include the operation of power tools.
  • Follow all safety procedures and practices and use proper safety attire for each specific job assigned or area involved. Perform safety inspections or checks. Actively participate in safety training and special projects.
  • Must actively maintain and improve housekeeping in the department and assigned area.
  • Use computer to operate production equipment and operations for Coir Milling, Compacting, Raw Materials and Blending Operations.
  • Participate in the proper training of new personnel in all areas of the facility.
  • Completes special projects or other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Position entails prolonged and repetitive motion of standing, twisting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, bending, climbing, reaching overhead and arms/hands dexterity.
  • Ability to lift 70 pounds.

  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written)
  • Strong math aptitude
  • Strong computers skills (Excel, Word, MSDS Center)
  • Must possess the aptitude to make sound judgments in regards to associate safety
  • Ability to plan and prioritize multiple work assignments.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and walk behind pallet movers.
  • Follow all Safety Guidelines to ensure that all associates remain uninjured.
