Job description

Orchid Insurance, an Arrowhead Intermediaries company, is seeking an Underwriting Tech II to join our growing team in Vero Beach, FL.
The Underwriting Tech II is specialized in one function of Underwriting and working towards demonstrating full proficiency in two or more of the following aspects of underwriting (new business, renewal business, and the integration of inspection findings to inform risk decisions and ensure alignment with company and carrier objectives). In this role, one is responsible for gaining proficiency in underwriting discipline to make determinations to approve, modify, or escalate risks. The Underwriting Tech II will work under the guidance and mentorship of experienced underwriters to build technical skills and knowledge.
How You Will Contribute:

  • Gaining continued proficiency in underwriting discipline to make determinations to approve, modify, or escalate risks based on underwriting guidelines of the carrier, with increasing independence.
  • Evaluates documents related to personal lines insurance, such as past claims, inspection reports, losses suffered, and property condition, applying underwriting guidelines to assess risk and ensure compliance with carrier standards within their scope of work. Has expertise in renewal underwriting and/or inspection underwriting and is gaining exposure and expertise of new business risk assessment.
  • Gaining exposure to new business and/or underwriting referrals, developing the ability to assess and escalate risks appropriately by strengthening underwriting decision-making skills, collaborating with underwriters.
  • Receives coaching on new underwriting disciplines to expand expertise beyond one's current specialty and supports mentoring opportunities for those less familiar with their underwriting specialty.
  • Assist with carrier-requested audits, as needed, by organizing and preparing audit files, including gathering required documents.
  • Learning and adhering to carrier guidelines but not actively participating in guideline development.
  • Provides phone/chat coverage support as deemed necessary to meet client service levels.
  • Active participant in Team Inbox and/or dashboard work, self-assigning work as needed to support team SOPs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with agents and clients by responding to inquiries in accordance with SOPs, ensuring clarity in communication, and delivering customer-centric solutions.
Skills & Experience to Be Successful:
Required:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 plus years of experience in personal lines underwriting or a related field.
  • Possess or acquire and maintain a FL 2-20 insurance license or the equivalent as required by FL state. Non-resident Florida teammates possess or acquire and maintain the non-Florida resident state equivalent Property & Casualty license.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
