Helmet House is headquartered in beautiful Calabasas Hills, CA, within minutes of Southern California’s world-famous motorcycling / biking & hiking roads

. POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a hands-on developer with working knowledge of Dynamic Concepts UniBasic to support and improve the WMS and related business applications used across Helmet House. The primary focus is analyzing, maintaining, troubleshooting, documenting, and enhancing long-standing Business BASIC applications in a Linux / Unix-based Dynamic Concepts environment.

The role supports our Calabasas Hills, CA headquarters/distribution center and works directly with IT and business users in Warehouse Operations, Inventory, Purchasing, Receiving, Sales, Customer Service, and Accounting.

The right person can safely work inside a mature production system, trace unfamiliar business logic, solve urgent operational problems, and improve the system without disrupting daily order and warehouse activity.

PRIMARY TECHNICAL REQUIREMENT

Working knowledge of Dynamic Concepts UniBasic is the primary technical requirement. Candidates with approximately two or more years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply. Deep experience is welcome, but we will also consider someone with a solid basic understanding who can read, troubleshoot, modify, test, and support existing code with guidance as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Analyze, maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance UniBasic programs, subroutines, includes, menus, reports, batch processes, and interfaces used by the WMS and related business systems.
  • Read and safely modify existing production code; test, compile, document, and release changes using controlled change-management practices.
  • Work with Dynamic Concepts UniBasic / Business BASIC data and program structures, including channel-based file I/O, fixed-length or indexed file structures, dimensioned arrays or matrix mappings, and related record-processing logic.
  • Diagnose production issues by tracing program flow, data records, dependent subroutines, scheduled processes, terminal behavior, printer or label output, and external interfaces.
  • Support business processes involving inventory, order entry, purchasing, receiving, warehouse operations, backorders, sales, customer service, accounting, and reporting.
  • Create and maintain a dependable source inventory, program dependency map, backup process, and technical documentation for legacy applications.
  • Develop and support integrations between the WMS and Microsoft CRM, ERP, e-commerce, EDI, shipping, payment, reporting, and other internal or third-party platforms.
  • Work with Linux, shell tools, SQL or comparable query tools, flat files, scheduled jobs, file transfers, APIs, JSON, and other integration methods as needed.
  • Gather requirements from business users, translate them into practical technical solutions, and explain risks, options, and expected results clearly.
  • Participate in testing, user acceptance testing, release planning, deployment, post-release support, and root-cause analysis.
  • Improve maintainability through documentation, source control, repeatable testing, cross-training, and careful modernization of high-risk legacy components.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Approximately 2+ years of hands-on experience with Dynamic Concepts UniBasic, dL4, or closely related Business BASIC applications; candidates with strong foundational experience will also be considered.
  • Working knowledge of Dynamic Concepts UniBasic concepts and Business BASIC environments; familiarity with legacy IRIS, NIROS, IDOS, or BITS applications is valuable.
  • Ability to read, debug, modify, test, compile, and support existing Dynamic Concepts UniBasic programs and subroutines.
  • Experience supporting a live WMS, ERP, distribution, inventory, order-management, or similarly complex operational system.
  • Experience supporting terminal-based business applications and navigating Linux / Unix-based production systems.
  • Solid understanding of program dependencies, data files and file definitions, channel-based I/O, batch jobs, reports, interfaces, and safe production change practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot difficult issues, identify root causes, assess operational risk, and restore service calmly and methodically.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, documentation discipline, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Ability to work directly with technical and non-technical users and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced distribution environment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / GOOD TO HAVE
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM / Customer Engagement experience, including Dataverse, model-driven Power Apps, workflows, security roles, reporting, and system integrations.
  • Microsoft Power Platform experience, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and related business-process automation.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or other ERP integration experience.
  • Experience with REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, EDI, e-commerce, shipping, payment, warehouse, or third-party platform integrations.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, MySQL, reporting databases, data extraction, reconciliation, and operational dashboards.
  • Experience with Git or another source-control system, structured release management, automated backups, and repeatable testing practices.
  • Experience with dL4, ODBCdL4, or modernization and migration of applications from IRIS, NIROS, IDOS, BITS, or similar Business BASIC environments.
  • Knowledge of wholesale distribution, powersports, dealer management, inventory, purchasing, receiving, accounting, or order-fulfillment processes.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
  • The UniBasic WMS remains stable, responsive, and dependable for daily warehouse and business operations.
  • Production issues are diagnosed quickly, root causes are clearly documented, and fixes are thoroughly tested before release.
  • Source code, dependencies, interfaces, and operational procedures are inventoried, backed up, and understandable to more than one person.
  • Business teams receive practical improvements to inventory, ordering, receiving, reporting, and warehouse workflows without unnecessary operational risk.
  • WMS integrations with CRM, e-commerce, ERP, reporting, and third-party systems become more reliable and easier to support.
  • Legacy applications are modernized carefully while preserving the proven business logic Helmet House depends on.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The role supports Helmet House's Calabasas Hills, CA headquarters/distribution center and collaborates closely with the IT / Business Systems team, internal business users, leadership, and outside implementation or support partners.

Hours are expected to fall within the U.S. Pacific Time business window of 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, based on business needs and the agreed-upon work schedule.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a practical developer who respects stable legacy systems, enjoys solving operational problems, and can take ownership without working in isolation. This person is comfortable reading and learning existing Dynamic Concepts UniBasic code, talking with warehouse or accounting users, documenting what was learned, and helping design a safe path toward better integrations and modern business systems.
