Job description

The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is currently seeking candidates to serve as an eAcademy Teacher. The WIU eAcademy program is a consortium of schools dedicated to bringing flexible online learning options to district students. eAcademy is not a cyber-school, but rather a service to school districts that builds the capacity to offer online learning opportunities to students. All of our students remain enrolled in their home district, graduate with a district diploma, and experience all of the benefits and services that our local districts have to offer. As a result, each student receives the best possible education in an environment tailored to his or her unique needs. The eAcademy Teacher is responsible for the course development, content review, and delivery of online instruction to students utilizing the WIU online educational and learning program known and designed as eAcademy.ย 
The successful candidate must have a PA instructional certificate and be a full time teacher employed by one of the following eAcademy Consortium Member Districts:ย ย

Education and Experience:

Minimum Education: BA/BS and PA Department of Education Certificateย 
Minimum Experience: 0-3 Years and must be actively employed as a Teacher by a school entityย 
General Definition:
The eAcademy Teacher is responsible for the course development, content review, and delivery of online instruction to students utilizing the WIU online educational and learning program known and designed as WIU eAcademy.ย 
Description of Duties:





  • Completes the online Orientation Training provided by the WIU for eAcademy instructors.
  • Develops, reviews, and updates all course content on a regular basis, as outlined in the Orientation Training, to meet the needs of all students.
  • Provides updated, relevant and rigorous instruction and instructional-related materials for each week of each course.
  • Includes as part of each course taught a minimum of one graded assessment per week for the duration of the course.
  • Uses assessment data, as well as PA Academic Standards to develop appropriate goals and objectives for each course.
  • Collects and interprets assessment data, and additional information, such as an IEP, and utilizes it to modify instruction, content, and to report progress.
  • Collaborates/communicates with staff, parents, etc., and attends required trainings/meetings.
  • Follows the appropriate chain of command when questions, issues, and/or concerns arise.
  • Complies with Federal, State, and Local Regulations, and Policies.
  • Actively monitors each course taught and emails daily.
  • Posts grades within seven days as outlined in the eAcademy online Orientation Training.
  • Promptly responds to any questions or inquiries by students/participants, school districts, parents, or with WIU within one (1) business day.
  • Provides email or telephone notification to the student, parent(s), and the student's home district for any student that fails to login for a period of one week.
  • Provides email or telephone notification to the student, parent(s), and the student's home district for any student whose grade falls below a 65%.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the eAcademy program in written and oral form, including electronic media, using positive interpersonal skills.
  • Highly skilled at implementing exemplary educational practices resulting in demonstrated student achievement gains.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning.
  • Exhibit knowledge of standards-based curriculum and instructional programs and practices for elementary, middle, and high school levels.
  • Demonstrate operational knowledge of Internet and Web-related technologies.
  • Ability to establish and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
