Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Telecommunications Analyst IV (Wireless) in the Department of Enterprise Infrastructure Network Operations & Architecture /Telecomm Division within the Office of Information Technology (OIT).
Under the direction of the Manager, Information Technology, Telecommunications Division Network Operations & Architecture, the Telecommunications Analyst IV is a highly skilled technician who plans, surveys, designs, installs, monitors, and deploys Rutgers University's wireless network infrastructure and supporting network electronics. The position is a team lead, providing technical guidance to other team members, and serves as the escalation point for non-routine tasks and complex configurations. Primary responsibilities include planning, designing, implementing, configuring, installing, monitoring and decommissioning network electronics equipment consisting of wireless controllers, routers and switches; supporting and coordinating network equipment hardware/software changes performed during scheduled maintenance work windows. Prepare and maintain accurate and regular documentation of project work, network equipment and infrastructure hardware/software changes, network status and equipment health.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Plans, designs, implements, configures, installs, monitors, and decommissions wireless network equipment consisting of wireless controllers, switches, and routers.
  • Plans and completes complex project tasks, including identifying and implementing nonstandard designs, applying complex configurations, and coordinating schedules with clients, project managers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Performs as a team lead and escalation resource, providing technical guidance to other team members for routine and complex tasks.
  • Provides direction, guidance, training, and technical assistance to lower-level regular, temporary, student, and consultant employees.
  • Assists senior management in developing new team processes and ensures established protocols are followed.
  • Supports and coordinates network equipment, infrastructure hardware, and software changes during scheduled maintenance work windows.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline plus six (6) years of experience in wireless networking.
  • Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstratable knowledge of wireless networking principles and practices and working knowledge of wireless networking technologies.
  • Ability to handle multiple, shifting priorities, a large volume of technical problem resolution, and work well with peers and senior staff in a team-oriented, and cooperative environment.
  • Demonstrable practical networking skills with ability to identify and solve problems of high technical complexity.

  • Hands-on network equipment installation, network problem analysis and repair.
  • Excellent customer service skills, the ability to communicate clearly in the English language, and must have excellent desktop computer skills.
  • Travel to Rutgers University Campus sites within the state using university vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Possess Certified Wireless Network Professionals CWNA, CWDP or CWAP.
  • Experience working with a Network Access Control system or other AAA system.
  • Experience with wireless design, survey and spectrum analysis software.
  • Working knowledge of Juniper JUNOS; Cisco IOS software.
  • Possess Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA); Juniper Networks Certified Associate - Junos (JNCIA - Junos) certifications.
  • Experience working with incident management, change management, and service management applications.
  • Demonstrated progressively higher levels of responsibility, culminating in positions with senior, hands-on design and implementation requirements.
  • Experience with network, configuration, & service management software.
