Job Summary:
The New York City Office of Technology & Innovation (OTI) leverages technology to enhance public services and improve government operations across the city. They are seeking a Windows Support Engineer to provide enterprise-level support and administration of Windows and virtualization platforms, ensuring effective operation and troubleshooting of systems.
Responsibilities:
• Keep Supervisors and Managers informed of existing or potential issues in a timely manner.
• Interact professionally and effectively with users, peers, and vendors.
• Provide Windows Server support for both physical and virtual servers.
• Configure, administer, and support Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025 environments.
• Provide technical support, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and problem resolution; perform Windows Server maintenance activities.
• Provide 24/7 operational support to resolve complex technical issues.
• Perform Windows systems administration duties.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operating system, disk space, and memory issues.
• Manage and troubleshoot multiple large-scale VMware environments.
• Manage and support VMware and Hyper-V infrastructure platforms.
• Manage and troubleshoot servers in cloud environments (AWS and/or Azure).
• Work assigned incidents and service requests; create and manage change records for system modifications, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
• Resolve complex technical operational problems.
• Serve as a technical resource for the Enterprise Windows Operations team.
• Perform special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration that is required for the position to be filled.
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management.
• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in '1'.
• A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or '2' above. Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college is equivalent to 6 months of experience.
• A master’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may be substituted for one year of experience.
• All candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time information technology experience as described in '1' above.
Preferred:
• Relevant certifications preferred, such as VMware VCP, Microsoft MCSA, and/or Azure Administrator.
• Five (5) years of experience configuring and administering virtual server environments.
• Five (5) years of experience configuring and administering Windows Server environments.
• Three (3) years of experience configuring and administering servers in AWS and Azure cloud environments.
• Strong working knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience working with VMware environments and products.
• Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025, including Failover Clustering and Terminal Services / RDS.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across all tiers of support.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Experience managing and supporting DNS, DHCP, Remote Desktop Session Host (RDSH), DFS, and Microsoft Failover Clustering.
• Experience with Shell and/or Perl scripting is a plus.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
