Overview:

William Charles Electric is hiring for an Electrical Engineering Manager in Rockford, IL!

The Electrical Engineering Manager is responsible for providing technical engineering information to the Project Manager, Craft Supervisors and Corporate Functional Managers to ensure design development and construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instruction applicable to High Voltage, Medium Voltage and Transportation electrical projects. This position will provide support to Pre-Construction and project controls (cost, scheduling, estimating), subcontract oversight, and work with project construction supervision as needed.

This position can be remote with travel or hybrid based in our Rockford, IL office with up to 50% travel to projects sites in the Midwest.ย  A company vehicle and fuel card will be provided. When overnight travel is required, meals and lodging will also be provided.

Responsibilities:
  • Understand technical drawings and specifications for electrical/industrial construction. Interpret design/drawings for personnel installing material. Assist in the preparation of field design change requisitions and "as build" drawings, as required.
  • Establish subcontract language, scope, terms and technical requirements.
  • Plan and develop construction work packages for electrical systems.
  • Understand detailed project schedules including required predecessors and successors to each activity.
  • Manage and coordinate both material and human resources.
  • Support Construction Management in analyzing and reporting the daily progress.
  • Support subcontractors in a manner that adheres to the construction schedule and contract terms.
  • Facilitate technical approvals by the engineers and expedite design development according to the engineering schedule and contract terms.
  • Propose modifications to engineering design and interpreting drawings, specifications and other technical documents for the subcontractors.
  • Assist in the preparation and dissemination of all required documentation records such as QA/QC reports, punch lists describing work items to be done, sketches of work completed, material requirement calculations, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in utility or electrical systems preferred.
  • Experience estimating MEP scopes or managing project cost preferred.
  • P.E. License desirable - Any State.
  • Electrical generation experience with renewable projects is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Understanding of design and engineering of utility, high and medium voltage projects.
  • Knowledge of construction activities including material, equipment, cost and time requirements to perform construction tasks.
  • Technical engineering and computing knowledge.
  • Knowledge of codes that apply to industrial construction.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, AutoCAD, Document Control Systems.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (other preferences will be given for special language skills where there is a business need).
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment on all phases of an EPC Project with minimal supervision Communications skills in writing and speaking (including technical communications).
