Job description
At 1898 & Co., part of Burns & McDonnell, we help clients plan, evaluate, and advance wind energy projects with confidence and clarity. Our Wind Advisory team partners with utilities, independent power producers, developers, and investors to support the development and lifecycle management of wind generation assets. We bring together deep technical expertise, market insight, and a multidisciplinary consulting approach to deliver practical, data-driven solutions across the energy transition.
We are seeking a Senior Consultant focused on wind advisory who is passionate about renewable energy development, project optimization, and the technical and commercial drivers shaping the future of wind generation. This role contributes directly to project execution by leading advanced wind project analyses and supporting client decision-making through high-quality technical, economic, and strategic evaluations.
What You'll Do
- Lead technical execution of wind advisory engagements across the project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, site suitability assessments, and development-stage evaluations.
- Lead independent engineering and technical due diligence efforts for wind projects to support development, financing, and acquisition decisions.
- Evaluate wind project design considerations including siting, layout optimization, turbine selection, wake modeling, and balance of plant considerations.
- Perform wind resource and energy production (AEP) assessments, including evaluation of resource data, losses, degradation, and performance uncertainty.
- Evaluate grid interconnection requirements, transmission constraints, and curtailment risks affecting wind project viability and performance.
- Support owner's engineering activities during project development and execution, including design reviews and technical evaluations.
- Analyze engineering, financial, and market data to develop actionable insights supporting project development, investment, and operational strategies.
- Develop technical and economic assumptions for life-cycle cost analysis, including capital costs, O&M, energy production, and market pricing considerations.
- Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses to assess risks related to resource variability, interconnection constraints, market dynamics, policy changes, and technology performance.
- Assess regulatory, permitting, interconnection, and market risks associated with wind project development and execution.
- Support asset management planning, operational strategy development, repowering assessments, and life-extension studies for existing wind assets.
- Develop technical memoranda, formal reports, and client-ready presentations summarizing findings, risks, and recommendations.
- Support project managers with client deliverables, proposal development, and business development activities related to renewable advisory services.
- Collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions spanning transmission, markets, and renewable project development.
- Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance on wind energy and advisory best practices.
- Comply with all company policies and quality standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years' related industry experience required.
