Job description


Position Summary:

The WIC Program Assistant is responsible for clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, and managing WIC charts, printing WIC checks, entering eligibility and demographic data into the computer and assisting WIC participants.

Program Specific Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Answers WIC phone courteously, directs calls, answers questions, and takes messages.
  • Greet and checks-in participants with courtesy and directs participants to appropriate WIC staff.
  • Collects basic participant information for eligibility screening. Help participants fill out appropriate forms.
  • Verifies category, identity, income, residency to determine WIC eligibility.
  • Loads WIC benefits for each eligible participant.
  • Processes participant proxies for authorized signature.
  • Ensures proper documentation has occurred for termination report and pulled charts.
  • Distributes surveys to clients to assess program quality.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with working at all of the Worcester WIC locations, when needed.
  • Ensures participants understand how to use the WIC benefits.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

One of the following combinations of education and employment experience required for the position:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • One year of general office experience required. Experience in health care setting preferred
  • Bilingual in English and one of the major languages of the client population.
