WSH is a 302-bed Joint Commission/CMS-accredited psychiatric facility located in the scenic Shenandoah Valley. Position Overview:
Western State Hospital is seeking a full-time Trades Manager I - Director of Physical Plant Services to plan, organize, staff, and provide leadership to the operations of the delivery of support services in the areas of Physical Plant Services, Transportation, Laundry and Environmental Services for Western State Hospital (WSH); ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State laws as well as all applicable building and regulatory codes/requirements; responsible from development, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures, and operating budgets for these programs; and oversee capital/maintenance reserve projects either through design, quality, oversight, budget management and procurement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the requirements of the performance planning and evaluation system are met and evaluations are completed by established deadlines with proper documentation and staff receive frequent, constructive feedback, including interim evaluations as appropriate
- Utilize work order system (TMS) as a "productivity" tool to ensure that staff effectiveness and efficiencies are achieved and that work orders are appropriately completed
- Conducts regular tours of the hospital and grounds to determine nature and extent of repairs and services needed throughout
- Project staffing needs to meet workload requirements -Report budgetary concerns to management as they are identified
- Actively support agency SWaM Procurement goals and Executive Order No. 20 (2014); and where possible, promote SWaM through agency outreach events. Support the intent of the EO20 and the goals of the Agency SWaM Plan
- Indicate code-regulatory issues to management with recommendations

Minimum Qualifications
- Extensive experience in building and grounds work
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- Trades License Cards/Applies mastery of skills in area(s) of specialization as demonstrated by; Experience as a Journeyman, Military Equivalence, or extensive Experience (Master Tradesman eligibility requirement)
- Experience in computer, purchasing procedures, and inventory control programs
- Previous maintenance supervisory experience
- Experience required in plant/property management of a large complement of staff with program management including preventive maintenance and energy delivery systems.
- Incumbent should also be experienced with A&E and be able to read and interpret drawings as well as design in CAD.
- Incumbent must be able to utilize automated PPS systems and be familiar with the PC including Office products as well as having good mathematical and communication skills.

- High school graduate or equivalent
- Graduation from a college or university with major coursework in architecture,
engineering, or construction management strongly preferred.
- Healthcare facilities management experience for constrained populations is strongly
preferred.
- Trades credentials, as well as other professional certifications, are preferred.
