WDAY, the number #1 station located in the Fargo, ND-Moorhead, MN metro area, broadcasts across the entire state of North Dakota, Western Minnesota, and Eastern South Dakota. WDAY is an award-winning station, taking home multiple Emmy awards as well as regional and national Edward R Murrow awards in recent years. They produce more live, local sports coverage than anyone in the region, and are the proud home of North Dakota State University Athletics and North Dakota High School Activities State Tournaments. WDAY is part of Forum Communications Company, a 5th-generation family-owned media company, and produces over 40 hours of local news, weather, and sports content each week, making them the most watched news station in the state of North Dakota and Western Minnesota.


Job Summary

The Sales Director is a strategic and results-driven leader responsible for driving revenue growth across all broadcast platforms. This role oversees the development and execution of innovative sales strategies, leads and mentors a high-performing sales team, and cultivates strong relationships with local and regional advertisers. The Sales Director leverages data, and market insights and analytics to maximize revenue opportunities. As a key member of the leadership team, this individual collaborates cross-functionally to align sales initiatives with overall business objectives while fostering a culture of accountability, creativity, and continuous growth.


Essential Functions

  • Work directly with the General Sales Manager to lead a team of local Account Executives in broadcast and digital sales.
  • Maintain, develop, and expand a local sales list.
  • Initiate and fully participate in all special promotions, packages, and new projects.
  • Proactively seek out new business clients and prospects, both on individual sales list and with the sales team.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market sales strategies and tactics that result in exceeding personal and company revenue targets.
  • Set targets, monitor performance, and provide insights to drive sales growth.
  • Hire and lead new sales team members with the help of the General Sales Manager.
  • Own the training process for existing and new hire local sales team members.
  • Motivate, mentor, and support sales team Account Executives.
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity and customer service in all business activities.
  • Diligently monitor active orders for correct copy, correct programming, and equitable rotation of spots to ensure the fewest number of credits necessary are needed.
  • Establish and develop digital sales specialties within the existing sales team.


Qualifications

  • Ideal candidate will have education in sales, advertising, marketing, communication and/or public relations; previous working experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Previous experience developing and leading a sales team strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of effective business development and account management, with a customer focused approach to sales and service.
  • Excellent communication and technological skills.
  • Highly motivated and organized.
  • Flexibility to travel, as necessary, to regional sales territories to develop and maintain strong and effective advertising relationships.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by the company, and an acceptable level of vehicle insurance as required.

Expected compensation for this role is between $70,000 and $90,000/year, based on qualifications and experience. Uncapped commission potential that goes beyond the listed range.
