Job description

CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR

We are not hiring someone to generate bid numbers.

We are hiring an Estimator who cares about the quality of every scope they touch, communicates clearly and on time, and genuinely wants every party at the table to walk away with a win. If that describes how you already operate, keep reading.

WHAT WE BELIEVE IN

Before we talk about the role, here is what we hold ourselves to every day:

  • Excellence is intentional. Good enough is not a finish line.

  • Attention to detail is not optional. The number on the page has to be right.

  • Communication is a skill we practice. Accurate, prompt, and clear, every time.

  • The best outcomes are wins for everyone. We do not build by taking advantage.

If you read those and nodded, you are likely a fit. If they sound like corporate filler, this is probably not your role.

AT A GLANCE

Company: West coast general contractor

Compensation: $100,000 to $155,000+ total

Includes: Bonuses, medical, dental, 401K match, PTO

Region: Pacific Northwest

Experience: 2+ years GC estimating

Priority: VA, DOE, and DOW project backgrounds

Travel: Bid walks and jobsite visits required

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

This is a full-ownership role. From the moment a project hits your desk to the day the award comes in, you are the person accountable.

  • Prepare detailed, defensible estimates for commercial, public, and federal projects ranging from $500K to $15M

  • Develop scope of work narratives, pricing assumptions, and exclusion logs that protect everyone

  • Author technical proposals for federal procurements, including written narratives, approach sections, and supporting documentation

  • Lead bid day compilation: vet, validate, and compile subcontractor proposals with discipline

  • Serve as the primary preconstruction contact with GCs, owners, and government representatives

  • Identify and close scope gaps before a number leaves the building

  • Collaborate with field leadership and estimating lead so every estimate is something we can actually build

  • Help decide which work we pursue and which we walk away from

WHY THIS SEAT CAN WIN

SDVOSB Advantage (Read This)

Skyward Construction LLC is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business. In the federal space, that matters. It can mean fewer competitors, more relationship-driven procurement, and a clearer path to award when the proposal is complete and the team is credible.

If you have federal estimating and technical proposal experience, you can win more of the right work here, and you will feel the difference in how projects are selected and pursued.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We will be direct. Here is the profile we have in mind:

  • You have GC estimating experience, ideally in commercial, public, or federal work

  • You have authored technical proposals for public or federal projects, including written narratives, technical experience, and approach documentation

  • You are willing to travel occasionally and work well remotely

  • You communicate early, accurately, and without prompting

  • You have a reputation for getting along with subs and with the people who work around you

  • You are open to learning new ways of communicating, leading, and estimating; not just plugging in numbers

  • You can say no to bad work and explain your reasoning clearly

THIS IS NOT A FIT IF

  • You operate on the assumption that the lowest number always wins

  • You hand off estimates and consider your job done

  • You have never written a technical proposal and are not interested in developing that skill

  • You are uncomfortable with accountability after bid day

  • You are not interested in evolving how you lead, how you learn, or how you bid

  • You need significant direction to prioritize or self-manage

  • You don’t get along in a team environment

  • You have a problem taking feedback to help you improve

COMPENSATION

$100,000 to $155,000+ total compensation

Base salary: $80,000 to $125,000 DOE. Total compensation includes bid win bonuses, margin bonuses, medical, dental, 401K with up to 5% employer contribution, and paid time off. We build compensation packages that reward the outcomes we actually care about.

If you want to build estimates you are proud of after the job is complete, let's talk.

Skyward Construction LLC is an equal opportunity employer and a proud Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB).
