What is the average pay for a welder?

The average pay for welders varies based on experience, location, and industry. In the United States, welders typically earn between $18 and $28 per hour, with an annual median salary of around $47,000 as of 2023. Highly skilled welders or those working in specialized industries, such as oil and gas or underwater welding, can earn significantly more. Entry-level positions may start with lower wages, while experienced welders can command higher pay rates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a welding role, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Welder, you need strong manual dexterity, attention to detail, and knowledge of welding techniques, typically backed by a high school diploma, technical training, or welding certification. Familiarity with tools such as MIG, TIG, or arc welding equipment and the ability to read blueprints and follow safety protocols are essential.
