Job description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assists all welding staff in weld set-ups and fixturing, weld processes, weld execution, and assists welders with properly maintaining all welding equipment. The Welding SME reports to the Senior Weld Engineer.
  • Studies blueprints, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of welding operations, and setup requirements.
  • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, welding tools, attachments, accessories, and materials as necessary.
  • Hand fits parts or fabricates simple fixtures by interpreting blueprints, determining dimensions required, operating fabrication machines such as saws and drill presses to make parts for fixture, and assembling fixture.
  • Calculates and sets controls to regulate welding machine factors such as voltage and amperage for thickness of material, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit robotic machine control media.
  • As necessary, runs trials to verify accuracy of weld settings or robotic welding programmed data control.
  • Determines weld recipes for production welding of parts. Writes welding procedures for welded product as needed.
  • Performs duties of an A-Level Welder as needed, including but not limited to welding, working with the Engineering Department on proper fixturing, prepping parts, and unloading parts.
  • Performs first piece and in-process inspection by checking dimensions and quality of welds of part per blueprint using calipers, height gage, protractor, and square. Inspects parts according to C=0 chart. Completes inspection form.
  • Performs Nonโ€‘destructive testing on welded parts such as Ultrasonic testing, etc.
  • Operates mig welding machine by pulling trigger on welding gun to tack or weld pieces together. May also perform arc and tig welding procedures.
  • Operates overhead crane.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance and general repairs on welding machines as required. Completes maintenance log.
  • Reviews customer blueprints and models to determine estimated weld times and manufacturability, as needed. Communicates these assessments to sales for the RFQ process.
  • Holds training sessions at management's request to help welders increase their skills and reduce issues related to bad quality.
  • Instructs new employees on Preventative Maintenance compliance.
  • Assists and/or advises maintenance technicians with welding device and machine repairs, as needed, to ensure machines can safely be returned to production.
  • Selects robotic welding program, if necessary and available, to create a part per blueprint by selecting fields to enter part and tool set-ups considering tools needed, tolerances, material type, quantity and resources available.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Utilizes Solidworks for use in cost modeling.
  • Sets up Bluco Tables and assists employees in this process.
  • Inspects welds utilizing dye penetration and Ultrasonic Testing inspection.
  • Develops processes and times necessary for new quoting opportunities.
Qualifications

Education & Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), two years of experience at OCI using welding technology and overhead cranes required. Must have been a proven A-Level Welder with nothing more than an active verbal warning on record. Must have passed internal Blueprint and GD&T Training/Tests and has demonstrated expertise at weld symbols, grinding symbols, and datum structures. Must be proficient at Bluco Table Setup procedures. Must be proficient at Weld inspection, including dye penetration and Ultrasonic Testing inspection. Must have demonstrated Solidworks experience for use in cost modeling.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with vendors and employees of organization.

Math Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume.

Reasoning Skills

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
