About WTOC:
WTOC is located in beautiful historic Savannah, GA, which was recently named the third-best city in the U.S. by Travel and Leisure. WTOC has been the market leader for 70 years. The station excels in creating effective commercials for our advertising clients. We also create promotional campaigns for our #1 News programs that inform and engage the viewer. WTOC 11 is the number one news source in beautiful historic Savannah, Georgia, which was named the third-best city in the U.S. by Travel and Leisure. As Savannah's first TV station, WTOC's community roots run deep. The call letters stand for Welcome To Our City.
Job Summary/Description:
WTOC is looking for an energetic morning anchor and MMJ to helm our weekend morning newscasts (Saturday/Sunday) and report three days a week. This is a role designed for someone ready for more air time (newscasts are two hours long) and committed to being a dedicated storyteller in our community.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Anchor weekend morning newscasts with a focus on local impact, utility, and community connection, delivering content that earns trust with audiences across all age groups.
- Produce and present streaming desk updates between and outside of traditional newscasts, providing live, real-time coverage of breaking news, severe weather, and developing stories for audiences watching on connected TV platforms (Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Smart TV apps, etc.).
- Report and shoot as a Multi-Media Journalist (MMJ), producing broadcast-quality packages while simultaneously capturing vertical video assets for social and streaming platforms.
- Anchor or contribute to streaming-only content, including live breaking news coverage, "what we know so far" explainers, and VOD segments designed for on-demand viewing outside traditional newscast windows.
- Work alongside the weekend morning producer to build engaging and dynamic newscasts that bring viewers the news when it's happening, where it's happening.
- Be responsible for making content and editorial decisions for the morning newscast shift and communicating with the manager on-call and other weekend staff.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- An understanding that this role is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday mornings and excessive time off on weekends means you might not be a good fit. This doesn't mean you can't have a Saturday or Sunday off; it means we want someone who understands this is a commitment.
- A digital-first mindset: You don't just "post to social"-you understand how to craft stories specifically for streaming and digital outlets.
- On-camera charisma: You have a natural, engaging presence whether you're behind the desk or reporting live from the field.
- Smart news judgment: You know a great story when you see one and have the skills to enterprise it from start to finish.
- Strong writing chops: You write for the ear and the eye, crafting scripts that are punchy, accurate, and human.
- Technical versatility: You're comfortable with the tools of the trade (including an eye for video, editing, tracking, and operating with the latest technology to go live and quickly send video).
- Empathy and curiosity: You care about people and the stories that shape their lives.
- Resilience: You thrive under deadline pressure and can handle the unpredictability of a live news environment with a smile.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in a newsroom is preferred, but your passion and potential matter most.
