Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Sawyer is responsible for cutting components for fabrication of trusses. Sawyers are tasked with ensuring continuous quality control of production through inspections, measurements, and quality checks. Sawyers may float to other areas of production at supervisor discretion.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Safely and responsibly operate saws to cut rough lumber efficiently into individual truss members in accordance with shop drawings within the timeframe determined by the Shop Manager and in keeping with quality standards for roofs, floors, and panels.
  • Check material for defects and correct dimensions.
  • Inspect completed operations for quality, accuracy and quantity, and document the operations performed.
  • Organize the work area & maintain equipment as recommended by manufacturer and at supervisor direction.
  • Pull lumber orders and move materials from one location to another.
  • Monitor machine operations as parts are processed to ensure quality and accuracy and per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Prioritize operations to achieve schedule.
  • Schedule cutting operations to ensure on-time delivery per contract.
  • Ability to train in the use of all equipment in the production area; cross-train in production areas; periodically may need to work in other work areas.
  • Comply with OSHA requirements and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties assigned and those that may be necessary to achieve company and departmental goals.

No direct supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; Truss fabrication or saw experience preferred
