Job description

King County Elections (KCE) manages voter registrations and elections for more than 1.4 million voters in King County, the largest vote-by-mail county in the United States. Learn more at www.kingcounty.gov/elections.aspx We are recruiting to create a roster of skilled temporary employees who will work in seasonal temporary positions in various work groups within Elections

These positions will perform a variety of duties necessary to support the administration of the various 2026 Elections in King County. Specific job duties will vary based on the needs of the Elections Department. Training is provided to perform assigned work.

Who May Apply: This position is open to the general public. Forms and Materials Required: King County online application and answers to the supplemental questions. Applications will be reviewed as received.

Work Schedule: The office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The number of hours worked and the work schedule vary according to the workload

During peak election cycles some positions might work additional hours including evenings and weekends. Typically, the duration of the work is 3-4 weeks; however, some positions work only a few days. The duration of the Customer Service Specialist (Drop Box Attendant) is two days.

This position is non-exempt according to the Fair Labor Standards Act and are eligible for overtime pay. Work Location(s): This position will work at Renton Elections Building located at 919 SW Grady Way, Renton, WA 98057. The position may also be requested to work at additional off-site voting and registration centers throughout the county.

Selection Process: Application materials will be screened on an ongoing basis; the most competitive candidates will be e-mailed for further steps in the selection process that will include a data-entry assessment test and interview. PLEASE BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EMAIL FOR FURTHER STEPS IN THIS PROCESS. Job Duties King County Elections believes in working in a very agile working environment.

Creating a team that delivers now and in the future is very important. There may be various job duties that you could be assigned. Some examples Include: Voter Services - Vote Center/Phone Bank - assist voters with questions on site or may answer incoming calls, provide basic election information, look up voter information, and/or call voters to verify information; enter data and validate voter information for various elections related activities.

Ballot Processing - Ballot Review/Scan -scans ballots and ensures that votes are counted as the voter intended through a variety of quality control processes. Ballot Processing - Opening - open and separate envelopes and ballots; inspect ballots and envelopes, complete batch ticket information. Ballot Processing - Signature Verification - analyze and determine whether to accept or challenge a signature by applying the criteria of 'Signature Verification standards' as required by Revised Code of Washington.

Ballot Drop Box - Ballot Collection - accompany a driver to a predetermined route and empty ballots from the ballot drop boxes. Secure the ballots and transport them back to the Elections office. Ballot Drop Box - Customer Service Specialist - greet voters and provide customer service onsite at a Ballot Drop Box on Election Night.

Speak with voters and answer various questions related to Elections. May assist with traffic flow. Manage any lines that may form and citizen expectations.

As part of a closing team, this individual will assist in drop box closing procedures. Other duties as assigned. Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills Candidates must have predictable and reliable attendance and the ability to work the required hours for the assigned job.

Travel to work locations throughout King County with limited or no public transportation services is required. The most competitive applicants will have work experience, abilities and skills in one or more of the following, depending on the requirements of each job: Data entry with accuracy and speed (timed computer test will be administered) Demonstrated baseline proficiency in written and spoken English Attention to detail and proofreading skills Ability to file numerically or alpha with accuracy Customer service and team building skills Ability to follow directions with strict rules and regulations Ability to gain knowledge of elections terminology Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced and high-volume work environment Ability to multi-task in an efficient and accurate manner Ability to work independently in a team environment Ability to stand or sit for periods of time as required Ability to bend, lift and/or move 25 lbs. of ballots Supplemental Information These positions will be filled as Customer Services Specialist I ($26.11/hour), Administrative Specialist I ($26.74/hour), or Administrative Specialist II ($29.46/hour) depending upon the needs of the Elections Department and candidate test scores
