Job description

POSITION SUMMARY This is a temporary part-time position with a 32-Hour cap per week in accordance with City of Fort Lauderdale Policy and Standards Manual. This position is At-Will and is not covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement or the Personnel Rules. This is a Temporary Worker position to be hired for part-time (typically 25-30 hours/week) security and customer service work of routine difficulty in patrolling and safeguarding City Hall property and providing information to City Hall employees and visitors.

An employee in this position will be responsible for patrolling buildings and grounds to guard and prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. In addition to security duties, the position also requires customer service information duties for City Hall visitors. Starting pay is $17.29 per hour

Regular work shifts are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All work shifts are subject to change and can include work hours between either 7:30 a.m

to 4:00 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m

NOTE: This is a part-time "at-will" position and is not subject to Civil Service Rules or any collective bargaining agreement. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.

Patrols an assigned area in and around City garages; secures doors and windows; reports fire hazards and other security issues Performs surveillance of City property by observing television monitors and responding to incidents observed Reports disturbances or suspicious circumstances which require police presence Operate communication systems, such as assigned radios and other security related equipment Writes incident reports as necessary on unusual security issues Provides customer service and information to the public Removes debris/cleans up any trash or materials which may create a safety hazard Performs related work as required JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or G.E.D. Up to one (1) year of related experience including some security and customer service work

Must be able to work up to a maximum of 32 hours per week. Regular work shifts are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prior security guard and/or customer service experience, preferably for a government entity. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook. The ability to communicate in various languages is a plus.

As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Employees will walk or stand for extended periods of time.

The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs.
