Job description

Position Summary:
Faculty members are responsible for the delivery of quality education services. This entails engaging students, fostering learning, role modeling professionalism, and ultimately producing competently trained students prepared for professional careers. This includes working with the Director of Online Education and other online faculty and staff to ensure consistent and high-quality delivery of assigned courses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach assigned courses as specified in the course syllabus.
  • Ensure the proper use of software:
  • Weekly feedback reports

  • Evaluate and select texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans.
  • Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of HCI College, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria.
  • Use the College's learning management system to post syllabus, assignments and other materials
  • Utilize the College's learning management system, email and phone to communicate with students.
  • Response time to student questions or inquiries must be within 24 hours or less (not including weekends)
  • Deliver course content using a variety of teaching styles and provide interesting and engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of all concepts covered.
  • Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions or examinations.
  • Provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress.
  • Be available for student consultation through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email.
  • Maintain attendance, assessments and grades, submit class rosters and grade sheets by the deadlines established by the College.
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available, and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  • Revise and update course content as needed.
  • Participate in online orientation sessions to become familiar with the College's mission and teaching philosophy, policies and procedures and the learning management system.
  • Meet with the Director of Online Education and/or the Vice President of Academic Affairs as needed to discuss all aspects of the course including student progress and curriculum development (may be required to provide input into program development).
  • Prepare course plans and materials.
  • Deliver course lectures.
  • Seek out an approved substitute in case of faculty member's need for absence.
  • Enforce HCI policies (attendance, etc.).
  • Work on retention plans and program development.
  • Attend staff and faculty meetings (mandatory for full-time faculty).
  • Participate in committees and knowledge sharing forums (mandatory for full-time faculty).
  • Facilitate student engagement.
  • Direct, assess, and monitor student progress and follow-up as needed.
  • Identify at-risk students in a timely fashion.
  • Meet with students and document on an Early Alert Form.
  • Implement an action plan for success.
  • Assessing students and providing developmental feedback.
  • Work one-on-one with students.
  • Be available for one-on-one assistance/tutoring.
  • Advise students.
  • Provide weekly assessments, follow up, and evaluation of the plan.
  • Answer student questions.
  • Record grades and submit reports.
  • Adhere to departmental grading policies.
  • Maintain grade books.
  • Grade assignments and exams.
  • Provide students with mid-term evaluations.
  • Provide progress reports/mid-term feedback.
  • Submit final grades.
  • Monitor progress and attendance.
  • Take and report daily attendance and enforce tardy and absence policies.
  • Report attendance issues to the Director of Online Education.
  • Provide weekly feedback reports to the Director of Online Education, Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs (SVPAA), and Group Campus President/Chief Operating Officer (COO).
  • Maintain any relevant licensures, certifications, and other required maintenance of paperwork for personnel file.
  • Maintain a minimum of eight (8) hours of Continuing Education Units (CEU's) annually by participating in professional development and in-services (i.e., continuing education, professional activities, conference presentations, scholarly publications, etc.).
  • Encourage students to submit course evaluations, review course evaluations when available, and use feedback to improve course delivery.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Comply with all governmental regulations and standards of accreditation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Workload Expectations:
  • Response time to student questions or inquiries must be within 24 hours or less (not including weekends).
  • Provide feedback in a timely manner on student progress.
  • Be available for student advisements, early alerts, and/or consultations through office hours or scheduled appointments or by phone or email.

Requirements
Skills and Qualifications:
  • All faculty should, at a minimum, have the degree required for the specific discipline and have experience and appropriate credentials in their relevant area of academia.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and analytical skills.
  • Excellent teaching skill and ability to efficiently manage students' online activities.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills including proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to manage people and projects.
  • Knowledgeable in the course content.
  • Effective in directing and evaluating student learning and overall performance.
  • Prepared in Educational Theory and Techniques.
  • A willingness to follow high ethical standards.

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent (Required for teaching associate degree programs)
  • Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent (Required for teaching bachelor degree programs)
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught (per ACCSC) (Required)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching at a post-secondary education institution (Preferred)

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None

Physical Demands:
The physical demands are those required in a professional office setting and higher education teaching environment: communicating with coworkers, presenting to a classroom of students (virtual classrooms for on-line), and demonstrating procedures and techniques. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
